With India’s long-term strategies towards trimming its import bills, domestic Methanol producers are coming up with massive expansion plans to assist the government’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Self Reliant’ strategies. State-owned Assam Petrochemicals Ltd.’s 500 TPD Natural Gas based Methanol Plant is under construction and is likely to be commissioned by 2023. NITI Aayog’s keen focus on making India-a Methanol economy, would serve as a springboard for the domestic Methanol producers. In addition, Coal India Ltd. is planning to enter the league of country’s major Methanol manufacturers, by adding a capacity of 670 KTPA by 2025. The company is eyeing on boosting its role in providing Methanol as clean energy alternative to the Indian govt. through coal-gasification technology. Other players like GNFC are also adding to Indian’s vision for becoming Methanol economy through their Methanol capacity expansions.
