During mid-July 2025, prices of 2-Ethylhexanol (2-EH) in the Chinese market witnessed a slight upward movement, in comparison other oxo-alcohols such as n-Butanol and Iso-Butanol. This upward trend occurred despite improved production rates, supported by a modest recovery of demand, tighter feedstock availability, and robust export activity witnessed in June 2025.

Domestic supply conditions improved slightly as several oxo-alcohol units in the Shandong region restarted their operations. This included major producer Tianjin Soda, which restarted its xx,xxx MT/year x-EH plant after scheduled maintenance. This contributed to about a xx rise in overall x-EH operating rates. However, the increase in output was partly offset by tightness in upstream feedstocks. Operating rates at Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH) units, which supply chemical-grade propylene, dropped to xx.xxx, a x.xxx month-on-month decline which consequently constrained propylene (Chemical Grade) availability and supporting firm pricing for x-EH.

Adding to the bullish market fundamentals, domestic inventory levels remained tight due to a surge in export activity. Export volumes of x-EH were reported to have increased sharply by xxx month-on-month in June xxxx, which significantly reduced warehouse stocks and further supported spot market gains. As a result, average prices of x-EH inched up by approximately...
