Air Liquide is significantly expanding its presence in Gujarat, India, with a new Air Separation Unit and Cylinder Filling Station in Bhagapura, set to double its regional production capacity by 2027.
Global leader in industrial gases, Air Liquide, has announced a significant investment in Gujarat, India, with the establishment of its second Air Separation Unit (ASU) and Cylinder Filling Station (CFS) in Bhagapura. This strategic expansion, slated to commence operations in 2027, is poised to effectively double Air Liquide's production capacity in the region, reinforcing its commitment to supporting Gujarat's burgeoning industrial and healthcare sectors.
The new Bhagapura facility will be wholly owned and operated by Air Liquide India, complementing its existing ASU plant at Jhagadia. This dual-plant strategy will ensure an enhanced and more reliable supply of industrial and medical gases to customers across the state. Gujarat, known for its robust industrial growth, particularly in sectors such as automotive, battery manufacturing, and electronics, stands to benefit immensely from this increased capacity. The Bhagapura ASU will boast a production capacity of 200 tonnes per day, while the accompanying cylinder filling center will be capable of filling nearly 1,000 cylinders daily. This substantial output will cater to a wide range of needs, from on-site and bulk gas applications for industries to packaged gases and critical medical gases for local hospitals.
A key highlight of this investment is its alignment with Air Liquide's ambitious sustainability objectives, which include achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. In a move reflecting environmental responsibility, the new site at Bhagapura plans to decarbonize its operations through the procurement of renewable energies starting from 2029.
Air Liquide India has been a pivotal supplier to the Indian gas industry since its inception in 1996. With this latest expansion, the company will further solidify its footprint in the country, adding to its existing six production facilities located across North and West India. Collectively, these facilities currently boast a production capacity of almost 1,500 tonnes per day of essential Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Argon gases.
Benoit Renard, Managing Director, Air Liquide India, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "We are more than doubling Air Liquide’s production capacity in Gujarat with our investments in this new state-of-the-art efficient air separation plant and this cylinder filling center. By increasing our footprint, we will contribute to the growth of Industries and Healthcare sectors in this region. Being close to our customers, in order to provide a high level of reliability and quality in our services, will always be our priority."
