Alkane Resources has announced a substantial increase in the Mineral Resource estimate for the Storheden Deposit, located within its Björkdal gold operation in northern Sweden. The update follows a successful exploration campaign that has enhanced the geological understanding of the deposit and significantly improved confidence in its resource potential.
Situated approximately 700 metres north of the existing Björkdal mine, the Storheden Deposit has emerged as a promising growth asset. Recent drilling has confirmed the presence of gold-bearing quartz veins extending across a strike length of 2.7 kilometres and reaching depths of up to 464 metres. Importantly, the mineralised system remains open in every direction, indicating considerable potential for future resource expansion.
Between January and March 2026, Alkane completed 16 extensional diamond drill holes targeting previously identified mineralised zones. The drilling campaign successfully intersected multiple high-grade gold zones and provided valuable geological information regarding the structural controls governing mineralisation. This improved understanding will help guide future exploration and resource development activities.
The updated resource model incorporates drilling data collected during both the 2025 and 2026 exploration programs. As a result, Alkane has upgraded a portion of the deposit to the Indicated Resource category, reflecting higher confidence in the geological continuity and resource estimation. The updated Mineral Resource now comprises an Indicated Resource of 1.07 million tonnes grading 2.51 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, containing approximately 87,000 ounces of gold, along with an Inferred Resource of 1.85 million tonnes grading 2.11 g/t gold, containing around 125,000 ounces.
Several drill intersections returned exceptionally high gold grades. Highlights include 36.1 g/t gold over 0.5 metres in drill hole SH26-004, 50.9 g/t gold over 0.95 metres and 39.2 g/t over 0.6 metres in SH26-010, 107.0 g/t gold over 0.4 metres in SH26-011, and 27.4 g/t gold over 0.7 metres in SH26-012. These results reinforce the presence of high-grade mineralisation within the deposit.
Managing Director and CEO Nic Earner stated that Storheden is rapidly evolving into a major growth opportunity for the Björkdal operation. He noted that the latest drilling has demonstrated the deposit's increasing scale, while its full extent and depth remain unknown. Earner added that Alkane plans to continue exploration to further define the mineralised system, improve resource confidence, advance mine development activities, and progress the necessary permitting process for future extraction. A comprehensive update will be included in the annual NI 43-101 Björkdal Technical Report scheduled for release in September 2026.
Impact on Product and Chemical Commodity Prices
The expanded Storheden Mineral Resource strengthens Alkane's long-term gold production outlook, supporting future mine development and increasing the availability of gold for global markets. However, the project remains in the exploration and development phase, meaning any increase in gold supply will occur gradually rather than immediately. Consequently, the announcement is unlikely to significantly affect short-term gold prices, although it may improve long-term supply expectations. For chemical commodities tracked by ChemAnalyst, the impact is expected to be negligible. Gold mining at this stage does not materially influence the pricing or demand of major industrial chemicals, petrochemicals, polymers, fertilizers, or bulk chemical feedstocks monitored by the platform.
