ALPLA Group is acquiring KM Packaging to expand its injection-molding division, ALPLAinject. The deal adds six production sites and 500 employees across four countries. Known for sustainable, high-quality closures, KM Packaging will strengthen ALPLA’s portfolio and global reach. The acquisition awaits regulatory approval; terms remain undisclosed.
The ALPLA Group has announced the acquisition of KM Packaging, a strategic move to bolster its ALPLAinject division, which specializes in injection molding. This acquisition expands ALPLA's capabilities in manufacturing high-quality closures for tubes, bottles, and jars, including production in clean room environments when required. The addition of KM Packaging brings six new production sites located across Germany, Austria, Poland, and the United States.
Subject to regulatory approval by competition authorities, the transaction will include the full integration of KM Packaging’s management team and roughly 500 employees. The company will operate under the ALPLAinject division, further enhancing ALPLA’s global presence and service offerings in the injection-molded packaging market.
KM Packaging, headquartered in Ubstadt-Weiher in Germany’s Baden-Württemberg region, produces over 6.5 billion injection-molded components annually. Its product portfolio includes closures, caps, dispensing systems, and jars made of polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE), with applications in the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and food industries.
“At ALPLA, we approach packaging as an integrated solution. With KM Packaging, a respected expert in closures and dispensing aids, we’re reinforcing our position as a global supplier of innovative, sustainable, and system-based packaging,” said Michael Feltes, managing director of ALPLAinject.
Founded in 1949, KM Packaging as it is known today was formed in 2008 through the merger of two family-run companies: Kutterer Kunststofftechnik and Mauer AG. The company has since built a reputation for technical excellence, sustainability, and customer-driven innovation.
KM Packaging is known for its commitment to sustainability. The company utilizes up to 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials and produces closures compatible with monomaterial packaging, including screw caps and flip-tops made of HDPE. The firm also supports material reduction through lightweight design and offers recyclable solutions, making it a valued technical partner in sustainable packaging development.
Klaus Mauer, managing director of KM Packaging, emphasized the shared values between the two companies. “Both ALPLA and KM Packaging are family-owned businesses with deep-rooted traditions. This partnership ensures the continuity of our operations, jobs, and customer relationships,” he said.
Nicolas Lehner, ALPLA's chief commercial officer, added: “This acquisition aligns with our strategic goals. KM Packaging’s technological expertise, customer focus, and sustainability credentials enhance our role as a leading packaging innovator and recycler.”
The acquisition agreement was finalized on June 23, 2025. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
