The Ammonium Sulphate market experienced a wave of pessimism during the first half of May 2025.  The prices remained soft to stable globally amidst minor fluctuations reported particularly in the North American and the Asian region. Faded seasonal demand , adequate inventories remained the key factors behind the current price trend.

In India the Ammonium Sulphate market was subdued. After the end of the Rabi sowing season and the premature start of summer characterized by record-high heatwaves, buyers were cautious and not interested in making bulk purchases of Ammonium Sulphate. Enquiries were few and mostly restricted to contract terms for May 2025 with minimal spot market action noticed. But the recently declared Nutrient-Based Subsidy (NBS) levels for nitrogen-based fertilizers during the Kharif season 2025 (April 1st to September 30th) could encourage procurement and help bolster demand in the months ahead. On the production side, stocks of domestically made Ammonium Sulphate in the regional market were sufficient to meet end-users' needs. This was contributed in significant part by the abundant supply of feedstock Ammonia, which provided consistent and effective operations in manufacturing facilities.

Likewise, Chinese market Ammonium Sulphate prices in China were also relatively stable, after recording a sharp drop in the last week. Market players did not make any further price adjustments in Ammonium Sulphate, as prices had already drawn near multi-month lows. The consistent pricing direction was supported by adequate availability of feedstocks, which assured even production levels at domestic plants to maintain a balanced supply. On the demand side, consumption was still. In the regional market, consumption decreased after the wheat planting season ended, naturally slowing down fertilizer demand.  Meanwhile internationally demand was also curtailed by high shipping costs and continued port congestion in China, which urged foreign buyers to look elsewhere for alternative sources.

At the same time, in the North American market Ammonium Sulphate prices in the North American market saw a slight fall. The seasonal demand tapering resulted in muted buying activity contributing to the negative sentiment in the market. Geopolitical tensions also contributed significantly towards influencing market dynamics. On the demand side, buying activity for Ammonium Sulphate continued to be fairly subdued over the period under review. Declining peak crop planting activities—especially in the U.S. Corn Belt—has further been responsible for lower consumption levels. With the planting season closing, demand for fertilizers like Ammonium Sulphate that are nitrogen-based usually declines, reflecting the trend in the market. Globally, demand was also soft because of the ongoing imposition of retaliatory tariffs by major foreign markets. Such trade measures have derailed cross-border transactions and generated uncertainty among exporters, further suppressing buying interest and saddling the overall market sentiment.

According to the ChemAnalyst analysis, the Ammonium Sulphate market may fluctuate during the coming months. Projected revival in demand for the Ammonium Sulphate from the major end-user fertilizer sector can create price hike but continued geopolitical tensions could dictate the future of Ammonium Sulphate market otherwise.
