Arkema achieves global ISCC PLUS certification for acrylic monomers, advancing sustainable, bio-attributed production across coatings, adhesives, and industrial sectors.

Arkema, a prominent global player in specialty materials, has successfully achieved ISCC PLUS certification for its acrylic monomer production facilities worldwide. This milestone includes key manufacturing sites in Carling, France; Clear Lake and Bayport in Texas, USA; and Taixing, China. The certifications are part of Arkema’s comprehensive Mass Balance roadmap, which underlines its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship in the chemical industry.

With this globally certified network, Arkema now offers a robust platform to support customers throughout the acrylic value chain in reducing their product carbon footprints. This initiative enhances the company’s ability to provide fast, simple, and cost-effective solutions to manufacturers seeking to integrate lower-emission materials into their supply chains. These certified monomers will be vital in producing sustainable solutions in industries such as coatings, adhesives, transportation, energy-efficient building materials, comfort-focused products, engineered polymers, leather, textiles, hygiene, and water treatment.

Hervé Castres Saint Martin, Group President for Acrylic Monomers at Arkema, emphasized the significance of this achievement. “Arkema is among the first suppliers worldwide to offer locally sourced, bio-attributed acrylic monomers using the Mass Balance approach on a truly global scale,” he noted. “By focusing on certifying our acrylic monomers at this level, we’re enabling strategic decarbonization efforts across the entire acrylic value chain. This positions Arkema as a key partner in helping industries transition toward more sustainable raw materials and production practices.”

The Mass Balance approach enables the integration of renewable or recycled feedstocks within existing infrastructure, providing a more sustainable path forward without requiring complete overhauls of current manufacturing systems. Arkema’s commitment to this model aims to accelerate economies of scale for renewable and recycled raw materials, further reducing dependence on fossil-based sources.

In addition to monomers, the ISCC PLUS certification supports Arkema’s plan to gradually introduce a complete range of specialty resins and bio-attributed additives. These include advanced formulations such as high solids resins, water-based resins, UV-LED-EB curable systems, and powder polyester resins, all intended for use in a wide array of industrial applications.

Arkema’s global ISCC PLUS certification underlines the company’s proactive stance in addressing climate change and promoting circular economy principles. Through these efforts, Arkema is not only reinforcing its leadership in sustainable specialty materials but also enabling its clients and partners to meet evolving environmental regulations and consumer expectations.

Leveraging its distinct expertise in materials science, Arkema provides a portfolio of cutting-edge technologies designed to meet the rising demand for innovative and sustainable materials. Driven by its goal to become a pure player in Specialty Materials, the Group is organized into three synergistic, resilient, and highly innovative business segments—Adhesive Solutions, Advanced Materials, and Coating Solutions—which together represented approximately 92% of its total sales in 2024. In addition, Arkema maintains a strong and competitive Intermediates segment.
