Arkema, a global leader in specialty materials, has received ISCC PLUS certification for its waterborne acrylic resins manufactured at its facility in Saint Charles, Louisiana. The certification, based on the mass balance approach, marks a significant step in Arkema’s broader strategy to promote sustainable and circular solutions across its portfolio.

The newly certified product line includes waterborne resins with up to 90% bio-attributed content, helping to advance eco-friendly innovation in industries such as coatings, adhesives, renewable energy, green mobility, infrastructure, and residential comfort.

“To address climate change and preserve natural resources, we are steadily replacing virgin fossil-based feedstocks with renewable and circular alternatives,” said Neil Tariq, global business director for coating resins at Arkema. “Alongside our segregated model, the mass balance approach allows us to accelerate reductions in CO2 emissions and improve circularity throughout the value chain. This certification also extends our network of certified Arkema facilities and supports companies striving to lower their carbon footprints.”

ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) is a globally recognized standard for tracking sustainable and circular feedstocks across complex supply chains. The mass balance method allows manufacturers to integrate renewable or recycled inputs alongside conventional materials while maintaining traceability and verified environmental claims.

The certification of Arkema’s Saint Charles site adds to its growing list of ISCC PLUS-certified locations worldwide, reinforcing the company’s leadership in sustainable materials innovation. The move aligns with Arkema’s ambition to transition to a comprehensive portfolio of bio-attributed specialty resins and additives.

In addition to waterborne resins, Arkema is also investing in the development and certification of high-solids, UV-LED-EB (ultraviolet, light-emitting diode, and electron beam), polyester powder coatings, and other advanced material solutions. These product innovations are designed to support customers seeking to reduce environmental impact without compromising performance or reliability.

By leveraging both the segregated and mass balance certification models, Arkema offers flexible, scalable solutions to help its customers meet evolving regulatory, environmental, and market demands. The certification underscores the company’s ongoing efforts to enable circularity and sustainable transformation across the coatings and adhesives value chains.

Arkema’s ISCC PLUS-certified resins are expected to play a critical role in helping customers across industries meet sustainability goals, including emissions reduction, renewable content integration, and life-cycle impact optimization.

With this latest achievement, Arkema continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability, resource efficiency, and innovation in specialty materials on a global scale.
