Arkema expands its ISCC PLUS-certified network by adding its Gissi, Italy site, advancing global sustainability goals and supporting eco-friendly resin solutions.
Arkema, a global leader in specialty materials, has expanded its network of sustainable production sites by securing ISCC PLUS certification for its specialty polyester resins facility located in Gissi, Italy. This new certification aligns with Arkema’s broader global Mass Balance strategy, which aims to accelerate the shift toward more sustainable and lower-carbon raw materials across its entire portfolio. By integrating the Gissi site into its certified network, the company strengthens its commitment to offering responsible material solutions to customers seeking to reduce environmental impact in their end-use products.
The ISCC PLUS certification ensures traceability and transparency for bio-attributed and circular raw materials, allowing Arkema’s customers—especially those operating in polyurethane systems, adhesives for construction, packaging, automotive applications, and related sectors—to progress further in their sustainability goals. With increasing regulatory and market expectations for eco-friendly solutions, this certification provides customers with enhanced confidence that the materials they use contribute to reducing carbon footprint and improving lifecycle performance.
Franck Charrier, Global Business Director for Advanced Liquid & Powder Resins at Arkema, emphasized the significance of this development. He noted that the certification of the Gissi site represents an important milestone: all of Arkema’s Advanced Liquid Resins manufacturing units worldwide—including acrylics, polyesters, alkyds, and polyamides—are now fully ISCC PLUS certified. According to Charrier, this accomplishment reinforces the company’s long-term ambition to continuously improve the way its products are sourced and manufactured. It also supports the broader industry movement toward greener solutions and more responsible material innovation.
The inclusion of the Gissi facility adds to an already extensive list of globally certified sites in Arkema’s Advanced Liquid Resins network. With this addition, the company’s ISCC PLUS-certified footprint now spans multiple regions worldwide, covering key production hubs such as Sant Celoni in Italy, Mollet Del Vallès in Spain, and Zwickau in Germany within the EMEA region. Beyond Europe, Arkema’s certified presence extends to North America through its Grand Rapids, Michigan, and North Kansas City, Missouri facilities. In the Asia region, the company’s Navi Mumbai site in India and its Pasir Gudang facility in Malaysia further strengthen its global sustainability roadmap, collectively forming a robust and internationally integrated network of ISCC PLUS-certified Advanced Liquid Resins production sites.
Each of these facilities contributes to Arkema’s global sustainability roadmap by supplying certified raw materials through the Mass Balance approach, which integrates renewable or recycled feedstocks into existing production systems while maintaining rigorous documentation and verification standards.
This certification effort covers a wide range of technologies and products used in coatings and related applications. The portfolio includes bio-attributed specialty resins and additives such as high-solids systems, waterborne technologies, UV-LED-EB curable products, and polyester powder materials. Through these initiatives, Arkema continues to support a growing market demand for innovative, sustainable solutions that combine performance with environmental responsibility.
