Asian BPA Prices Extend Decline in August on Weak PC and Epoxy Resin Demand

Emily Dickinson 01-Sep-2025

Bisphenol A (BPA) pricing in Asia has been on a downward trajectory throughout August 2025, reflecting the ongoing bearish sentiment in the markets. This was attributed primarily to persistently subdued downstream demand and a lack of significant cost support from feedstock phenol and acetone.

Key Highlights

  • China’s BPA prices declined x.xx MoM in August, pressured by oversupply and weak PC/epoxy resin      demand.
  • Phenol production rose x.xxx MoM in China, while acetone shipments remained modest, weakening cost support.
  • Port congestion and typhoon risks added logistical strain, limiting export movement.
  • Indian BPA demand stayed weak amid monsoon disruptions and cautious trading.

In August, BPA prices in China declined, moving from USD x,xxx/MT to USD xxx/MT FOB Qingdao. The price decrease was due to ongoing oversupply, weak demand from downstream sectors, and poor sentiment. After falling prices, transaction volumes experienced small recoveries, yet buyers remained cautious, only buying on demand. The lack of bullish factors at the same time as an ongoing imbalance between supply and demand kept prices weak. Production remained stable, with major BPA plants operating normally and no outages reported.
