Blencowe Targets Premium Defence Graphite Market With Orom-Cross

Blencowe Resources has made further progress in developing premium applications for graphite from its Orom-Cross project in Uganda. Recent testing conducted with American Energy Technologies has demonstrated that Orom-Cross graphite could serve in advanced defence applications, particularly anti-radar and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding coatings.

These specialist graphite-based materials could be used in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other defence platforms where reducing radar visibility and managing electromagnetic interference are critical. Blencowe is currently working with three European UAV manufacturers to advance the technology from laboratory and demonstration-stage testing toward commercial adoption.

One potential offtake agreement has moved into an advanced commercial phase and involves ultra-fine M635 graphite containing 97% total graphitic carbon. Indicative pricing for this specialist material is approaching $20,000 per tonne, significantly above the prices generally associated with conventional graphite concentrate. Orom-Cross graphite is already being incorporated into high-fidelity demonstration projects as prospective customers continue their technical evaluations.

The development supports Blencowe’s broader strategy of directing a larger share of future production toward specialized, higher-margin graphite markets. The company has also completed previous testing related to aerospace and rocket propulsion applications and is now focused on converting successful technical validation into long-term commercial demand.

Blencowe has already secured non-binding offtake commitments exceeding the 20,000 tonnes per year production capacity planned under Phase 1 of Orom-Cross. The company continues to pursue additional agreements as it considers a potential Phase 2 expansion that could increase annual production to approximately 70,000 tonnes.

At the same time, Blencowe is evaluating project-level financing options to fund Orom-Cross development while minimizing dilution for existing shareholders. A growing portfolio of premium offtake agreements could strengthen the project’s financing prospects and enhance its strategic importance within Western-aligned graphite supply chains.

The company is particularly targeting defence, aerospace and advanced-material markets that seek alternatives to Chinese graphite supplies. These sectors may place greater value on supply security, material consistency and specialized performance, potentially allowing premium pricing.

However, Blencowe’s financial position remains challenging. The company currently has no revenue and continues to report losses, while operating cash flow has weakened. Its shares also face bearish technical signals, trading below key moving averages with a negative MACD. A relatively low-leverage balance sheet provides some financial support, but negative earnings and the lack of dividend income remain important valuation constraints.

Impact on Product and Chemical Commodity Prices

The news is positive for graphite, particularly high-purity and ultra-fine grades used in defence, aerospace, EMI shielding and advanced materials. The potential $20,000/tonne pricing for M635 demonstrates the substantial premium that specialized graphite can command over conventional concentrates. Increased demand from European UAV manufacturers and Western efforts to diversify away from Chinese supply could support higher prices for premium graphite and related specialty grades. For chemical commodities tracked by ChemAnalyst, the impact is likely to be moderately bullish for graphite-related materials, while broader chemical prices should see limited direct movement. Higher demand for advanced carbon materials could gradually improve pricing sentiment and margins.
