Blue Star Helium Limited has announced the successful completion of drilling operations at its Jackson 29 SWNW 3054 development well, part of the Galactica helium project in Las Animas County, Colorado. The well was drilled to its planned total depth (TD), marking the third well drilled in the company’s current development campaign.
Trent Spry, Managing Director and CEO of Blue Star Helium, commented, “We’re pleased to have drilled our third development well successfully. The promising early results from Jackson 29 underscore the high production potential of the Lyons Sandstone and further demonstrate the robustness of our Galactica project. This milestone represents another significant step toward achieving commercial production.”
The Jackson 29 well intersected the Lyons Formation at a depth of 1,122 feet and was completed 61 feet into the upper sandstone layer of the Lyons Formation at a TD of 1,183 feet. The well exhibited strong natural gas flows during drilling, consistent with earlier observations from the nearby Jackson 31 well. Importantly, no water was encountered while drilling through the Lyons Formation, a positive sign confirmed by wireline logging data.
Based on data from adjacent wells, Blue Star expects that the entire upper Lyons Formation is gas-saturated, with a significant portion of the lower Lyons also likely to contain gas. The well specifically targeted high-quality sandstone at the top of the upper Lyons, which is believed to be well connected across the entire gas-bearing zone.
Initial gas samples were collected during the well’s natural flow phase and are currently undergoing laboratory analysis to determine helium and CO2 concentrations. Preparations for surface pressure testing, flow testing, and additional gas sampling are underway as wellhead installation progresses.
Should flow testing yield positive results, the Jackson 29 well is expected to be completed and made ready for connection to the production facilities.
Looking ahead, the drilling rig will now mobilize to the next planned location at Jackson 27 SESW 3054, where site preparations are already in progress.
Blue Star is advancing the Galactica project in collaboration with Helium One Global Ltd. As part of a farm-in agreement, Helium One will fund the initial US$450,000 of drilling costs for the current well.
Helium is a rare and vital industrial gas used across a range of high-tech sectors, such as MRI technology, semiconductor production, fiber optics, and space exploration. It is predominantly obtained as a by-product during natural gas extraction.
Blue Star Helium Ltd is an independent helium exploration company focused on operations across North America. The company is dedicated to discovering and developing new sources of high-purity, low-cost helium.
