Borealis’ new Belgium compounding line produces high-quality recyclate-based polyolefins, supporting circular economy goals across mobility, consumer goods, and energy sectors.
Borealis is pleased to announce that its state-of-the-art compounding line for recyclate-based polyolefins (rPO) has officially commenced operations at its Beringen, Belgium facility. This achievement represents a significant advancement in the company’s ongoing efforts to support customers in achieving their sustainability and circular economy objectives, all while maintaining the high-performance standards and reliability that Borealis is renowned for.
The new compounding line leverages Borealis’ proprietary Borcycle M mechanical recycling technology, which enables the seamless integration of post-consumer recycled polyolefins with virgin materials. The result is premium-quality rigid polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) compounds that meet the rigorous demands of various industries, including mobility, consumer goods, home appliances, and energy. This capability ensures that recycled content can be incorporated into high-value applications without compromising product performance or durability.
Designed for maximum versatility, the Beringen facility can process a broad spectrum of recyclate flakes, catering to a wide array of customer requirements. Beyond production, the site serves as a collaborative hub where customers can co-develop innovative solutions, experiment with novel formulations, and bring recycled plastics into premium applications. This approach not only demonstrates Borealis’ technical expertise but also emphasizes its dedication to fostering partnerships that accelerate sustainable transformation in the plastics sector.
Craig Arnold, Executive Vice President of Polyolefins, Base Chemicals, and Circular Economy Solutions at Borealis, commented on the new installation: “This facility represents more than a technological achievement—it is a testament to our commitment to our customers. By providing access to high-quality recyclate-based materials, we empower our partners to fast-track their circular economy initiatives. This aligns perfectly with our strategic vision of driving sustainable growth through continuous innovation and close collaboration.”
The launch of the Beringen compounding line complements Borealis’ recent strategic acquisitions, including Rialti and Integra Plastics, reinforcing its position as a trusted partner in the shift toward a circular economy for plastics. The company’s integrated approach combines advanced recycling technologies, high-performance material expertise, and collaborative innovation to deliver solutions that enable sustainable growth across industries.
In addition, Borealis will showcase sample products made with recyclate-based polyolefins at the K Show 2025 in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 8–15 October. Attendees can visit the company’s booth in Hall 6, Stand A43 to explore the capabilities of these innovative materials and learn more about how recycled polyolefins can meet the performance and quality expectations of demanding applications.
Through this new facility, Borealis reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, demonstrating that integrating recycled content into high-quality materials is not only achievable but also commercially viable. By combining innovation, technological expertise, and collaborative development, Borealis continues to lead the plastics industry toward a more circular and sustainable future.
