Rising downstream demand and shifting input costs are driving significant changes in the Asian boric acid industry. Boric acid has important uses in electronics, medicine, glass, ceramics and agriculture. Industrial supply networks continue to depend on boric acid. Different patterns are emerging in major Asian economies as a result of changes in end-user demand and the sourcing of raw materials.
In India, the upstream segment is facing pressure due to increased prices of key raw materials. Sulfuric acid which used in the production of boric acid experienced a price incline in late May adding to the cost burden for manufacturers. As a result, boric acid prices in India also saw an upward trend, settling at USD xxxx/MT by the end of May. This increase may impact downstream sectors especially small- and mid-sized producers who are sensitive to input cost volatility.
