Brenntag Expands South Korea Presence with Woojin Acquisition

George Orwell 04-Aug-2026
Brenntag will acquire Woojin Trading to strengthen its South Korean beauty ingredients business, expanding formulation expertise, product offerings, and regional growth.

Brenntag, a global leader in chemical and ingredient distribution, has signed an agreement to acquire Woojin Trading Co., Ltd., a South Korea-based specialty distributor focused on beauty and personal care ingredients. The acquisition marks another strategic step in Brenntag's efforts to strengthen its footprint in Asia's fast-growing specialty chemicals market, particularly in South Korea, which is recognized worldwide as a center for beauty and cosmetic innovation.

The transaction will allow Brenntag to expand its presence in the country's highly influential beauty and personal care sector. By integrating Woojin Trading into its operations, Brenntag expects to provide customers with a wider portfolio of specialty ingredients, enhanced formulation expertise, and access to advanced in-house laboratory services. The combination is also expected to improve technical support and product development capabilities for customers operating in the cosmetics and personal care industries.

Francois Bleger, Global President of Brenntag Beauty & Care, stated that South Korea plays a crucial role in shaping global beauty trends and presents significant long-term growth opportunities. He noted that Woojin has established itself as one of the country's leading specialty distributors through its strong customer relationships, technical expertise, and high-quality product portfolio. According to Bleger, the acquisition will strengthen Brenntag's regional platform and create opportunities to accelerate the company's broader business expansion across South Korea while supporting growth in other Asian markets.

Woojin Trading was established in 1999 by Chairman Young Bae Song and has developed an extensive network of international suppliers along with a rapidly growing customer base throughout Asia. The company is widely recognized for distributing specialty raw materials and ingredients used in cosmetic and personal care formulations. Its technical capabilities include an in-house laboratory that supports formulation development and innovation while maintaining close partnerships with global ingredient manufacturers.

Woojin Chief Executive Officer Seon Yeon Kim emphasized that the company has built a strong position within South Korea's globally respected beauty industry. She said joining Brenntag combines Woojin's regional market knowledge with Brenntag's international distribution network and resources. The partnership is expected to help introduce Korean beauty innovations to a wider global customer base while creating additional opportunities for employees, suppliers, customers, and business partners.

The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the transaction. Completion of the acquisition remains subject to customary closing conditions, including required third-party approvals. The deal is expected to close during the fourth quarter of 2026.

Impact on Products and Chemanalyst Chemical Prices

The acquisition is expected to improve the availability of specialty beauty and personal care ingredients, including surfactants, emollients, emulsifiers, silicones, specialty polymers, preservatives, and active cosmetic ingredients. Brenntag's expanded distribution network and technical expertise may accelerate product innovation and strengthen supply reliability across Asia. For chemical commodities tracked by ChemAnalyst, the immediate price impact is likely to remain limited because the transaction is distribution-focused rather than production-oriented. However, stronger regional demand for specialty cosmetic ingredients could gradually support firmer prices for selected high-value specialty chemicals, while improved procurement efficiency and supply chain integration may help stabilize prices and reduce short-term supply disruptions.
