Cabot expands circular reinforcing carbon production to Asia Pacific, strengthening global sustainable tire materials supply chain using recycled tire-derived feedstocks.

Cabot Corporation has announced that it has successfully established production capabilities for circular reinforcing carbons in the Asia Pacific region through its EVOLVE Sustainable Solutions technology platform. This development marks a significant expansion of the company’s sustainable materials footprint, as its manufacturing sites in Cilegon, Indonesia, and Tianjin, China, have now validated their ability to produce these advanced materials at scale.

The circular reinforcing carbons produced at these facilities are derived using tire pyrolysis oil (TPO), which is sourced from end-of-life tires. By utilizing this recycled feedstock and applying an International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS mass balance framework, Cabot ensures that its products meet stringent sustainability and traceability standards. This milestone positions the company to deliver circular reinforcing carbons across all key global regions, including Asia, Europe, and the Americas, thereby reinforcing its leadership in advancing tire circularity worldwide.

Globally, tire manufacturers are intensifying their sustainability commitments, with many targeting up to 40% sustainable material usage in tire production by 2030 and achieving full sustainability by 2050. These ambitious targets are accelerating the demand for innovative circular materials. Cabot’s circular reinforcing carbons, produced from TPO, serve as a direct substitute for conventional carbon black, allowing tire manufacturers to increase the proportion of sustainable inputs in their products without sacrificing durability, safety, or performance.

By establishing regional production capabilities, Cabot is also enhancing supply chain resilience and efficiency. Its “make-in-region, sell-in-region” strategy reduces logistical complexity, shortens delivery timelines, and minimizes the environmental impact associated with long-distance transportation. This localized approach not only strengthens customer relationships but also supports broader environmental objectives across the tire value chain.

According to Aatif Misbah, vice president and general manager of the Sustainable Solutions business within Cabot’s Reinforcement Materials segment, this achievement underscores the company’s commitment to delivering scalable and impactful sustainability solutions. He emphasized that expanding circular reinforcing carbon production strengthens Cabot’s role as a reliable partner to the global tire industry while enabling measurable progress toward sustainability goals. The company remains focused on addressing evolving customer requirements and contributing to a more sustainable future.

In addition to its newly validated facilities in Asia Pacific, Cabot has already demonstrated circular reinforcing carbon production capabilities at multiple sites worldwide, including Ville Platte in Louisiana, USA; Mauá in Brazil; and Valasske Mezirici in the Czech Republic. These sites, along with the Asia Pacific facilities, are ISCC PLUS certified and fall under the recovered category within the EVOLVE Sustainable Solutions platform.

With a total of 13 ISCC PLUS certified manufacturing sites supporting its circular reinforcing carbon portfolio across major regions, as well as two certified masterbatch and compounding facilities in Europe, Cabot continues to make significant strides toward enabling a circular economy. This global network of certified operations highlights the company’s long-term commitment to sustainability, innovation, and responsible manufacturing practices.
