Welcome To ChemAnalyst
Indian Calamine prices registered a modest recovery during the first half of July 2026 after declining 1.45% in June, supported by stronger seasonal consumption and slightly firmer upstream raw material costs. According to ChemAnalyst data, July marks the peak of the Indian monsoon season across Western, Central, and Southern India, driving substantial consumer demand for Calamine-based topical products used to treat prickly heat, fungal infections, insect bites, rashes, and allergic skin reactions. Simultaneously, zinc metal and zinc oxide feedstock costs strengthened modestly amid supportive Asian demand trends and firmer global LME zinc pricing, providing fundamental cost support to Indian Calamine producers and contributing to the upward movement in Ex-Ahmedabad prices.
Demand conditions improved noticeably compared with June. Pharmaceutical and personal-care manufacturers increased procurement of Calamine to support rising production of dermatological formulations during the monsoon season. Major Indian companies, including Cipla, Zydus Lifesciences, and Sun Pharma, gradually resumed purchasing activities to replenish inventories and prepare for higher seasonal consumption. Products such as Calamine lotion, anti-itch creams, sunscreen formulations, dusting powders, and other topical dermatological preparations experienced stronger downstream demand. Export demand from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and the Middle East also remained broadly stable, providing additional support to the Indian Calamine market.
On the supply side, production facilities across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Ankleshwar, Vapi, and Vadodara, continued operating at steady rates. Adequate domestic production ensured sufficient Calamine availability despite the seasonal rise in consumption. However, zinc metal and zinc oxide feedstock costs firmed modestly in July, increasing raw material procurement expenses for Calamine manufacturers. While domestic logistics remained largely functional, periodic monsoon-related transportation disruptions in Western India created localized delivery delays, limiting immediate spot availability in some regions and supporting the modest price recovery.
Imported feedstock costs also showed signs of strengthening compared with June, reducing the scope for producers to offer discounts. As a result, suppliers maintained firmer offers for Calamine while balancing inventory levels with seasonal demand requirements. Market participants reported a cautious but improved sentiment compared with the previous month, as buyers increased purchases without engaging in aggressive stock-building.
Looking ahead, ChemAnalyst expects Calamine prices to remain moderately supported through the remainder of July and August. Continued monsoon-related demand for Calamine-based skincare and pharmaceutical products, combined with firmer zinc metal and zinc oxide costs, is likely to sustain the current upward trend. However, adequate domestic production and stable export flows may limit sharper gains. Market participants will continue monitoring monsoon intensity, feedstock cost movements, pharmaceutical procurement activity, and logistics conditions, all of which are expected to influence the future direction of Calamine prices in India.
