Calcium Formate Prices Decline Across Asia Amid Seasonal Construction Slump

Calcium formate prices in Asia continued to fall through June 2025, due to low construction demand and steady-to-weak feedstock costs. Though some sectors provided minor support, the market remained quiet, with traders and buyers staying cautious.

In the domestic market of China, calcium formate prices fell early in June as the cement and concrete industries remained quiet. Swelteringly unbearable summer heat slowed construction, with few new projects starting and minimal bulk buying reported. Traders noted sparse inquiries, leading to growing stockpiles across major market hubs.

Chinese calcium formate producers ran at low capacity due to soft demand and flat feedstock costs. Feedstock formic acid prices stayed weak, driven by an oversupply and limited buyer interest. Although some formic acid plants paused for maintenance, the cost impact was too small to lift calcium formate prices. Other feedstock carbonate prices also remained stable, keeping production costs low. Supplier discounts failed to spark sales, as buyers avoided forward purchases and long-term deals.

Export activity was weak, with sluggish overseas demand and shipping delays at Qingdao Port. Typhoon risks in East Asia further disrupted delivery timelines and reduced demand for cement admixtures and construction chemicals, keeping market momentum low.

By late June, calcium formate prices in China leveled off at lower rates after earlier drops. The market stayed calm, with downstream manufacturers sticking to just-in-time purchasing strategies. Feed additive demand held steady but couldn’t offset the sharp decline in construction-related use.

In the domestic market of India, calcium formate demand remained weak throughout June due to the monsoon season’s onset. Cement prices dropped by INR 4–5 per bag across regions, reflecting poor construction momentum. Labor shifted to farming tasks, and rain-induced delays stalled project progress further.

Indian traders reported minimal market activity, with clients buying only essentials to meet immediate needs. The feed additive sector showed modest demand, but cement and concrete applications saw sharp declines. Downstream manufacturers operated below capacity, and caution dominated amid ample supply from regional markets.

Severe weather events, including floods and landslides in ASEAN regions, disrupted construction, softening calcium formate demand in key export destinations, and affected regional buying patterns.

According to ChemAnalyst, Calcium formate prices are expected to remain low in the coming month. Ongoing weather issues reduced construction activity during the monsoon, and slow industrial demand is likely to keep buying weak. Traders do not expect a strong pickup until demand improves after the monsoon season.
