CARBIOS has entered the r-PET market for tire textile filaments through a multi-year commercial agreement with Indorama Ventures, with the recycled materials destined for use in Michelin tires.

In a significant stride towards a more sustainable future for industrial materials, CARBIOS, a pioneer in enzymatic plastic recycling, announced on July 21, 2025, a multi-year commercial agreement with Indorama Ventures, the world’s leading polyester producer. This groundbreaking partnership will see CARBIOS supply biorecycled monomers from its upcoming Longlaville plant, which Indorama Ventures will transform into recycled PET (r-PET) filaments for integration into Michelin's tire reinforcement manufacturing.

The agreement is a testament to the increasing interest in utilizing advanced recycling technologies to address complex PET waste challenges and transform them into high-performance, sustainable materials. CARBIOS's innovative enzymatic PET recycling technology enables the production of monomers from hard-to-recycle PET waste. These monomers will then be repolymerized by Indorama Ventures into technical filaments, which Michelin, a global leader in the mobility sector, will incorporate into its tire reinforcements.

Vincent Kamel, CEO of CARBIOS, emphasized the significance of this agreement as a new milestone in the pre-commercialization phase of the Longlaville plant. "This commercial agreement with Indorama Ventures marks a new step in the realization of our industrial project. It confirms the trust of Indorama Ventures and Michelin in our PET biorecycling technology," stated Kamel.

Michelin Group's Director of Circularity and Renewable & Recycled Materials, Fabien Gaboriaud, echoed this sentiment. "This partnership is a tangible expression of our commitment to turning complex waste into high-performance materials," said Gaboriaud. "By integrating enzymatically recycled r-PET into our tires, we are marking a new milestone on our journey toward achieving 100% renewable and recycled materials by 2050 — all while staying within planetary boundaries. It is by combining innovation, industrial excellence, and close collaboration with trusted partners that we are building a strong and lasting circular model."

Renato Boaventura, Global Market Head Mobility at Indorama Ventures, reinforced the long-standing relationship with Michelin. "This alliance with both, CARBIOS and Michelin, underlines our commitment to plan ahead and take a leading role in shifting the industry towards circularity," commented Boaventura. Indorama Ventures' role as the repolymerization and production partner is crucial in transforming the recycled monomers into the high-quality filaments required for tire manufacturing, demonstrating their dedication to advancing circularity within the polyester industry.

This multi-year agreement not only solidifies CARBIOS's position as a key player in the advanced recycling landscape but also paves the way for a more sustainable future for the tire industry.
