Caustic Soda finds wide applications across several industries such as textiles, paper and pulp, alumina, soap and detergents etc. Domestic manufacturers of Caustic Soda are faced with stiff competition from cheaper import of the product in the Indian market. These industries that use caustic soda as raw materials for several application, irrespective of form, frown as Caustic Soda lye and flakes price rise in the domestic market. Lye and Flakes can be used interchangeably and there has been no significant difference in the import volumes of either of the form. However, in response to the repetitive appeals by the manufacturers to increase tariffs on import of the subject goods, import volume has drastically gone down, thus, resulting in a constricted supply of the product in the domestic market which in turn, has affected its price levels.
