The global glutaraldehyde market witnessed a range of price changes in May 2025 across major regions, with the Indian market remaining relatively stable and China and the USA showing a downward trend. Differences in domestic demand from downstream industries like cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, as well as external trade and inventory levels, are the reasons for the inconsistent pricing behaviour.
Over the course of the month, glutaraldehyde prices in China showed a downward trend. The downstream pharmaceutical sector's muted demand, which displayed little procurement activity because of adequate inventory build-up in the preceding months, was the main cause of this. The consumption rate of glutaraldehyde was further decreased by a seasonal lull in the domestic cosmetics industry, which represents another sizable consumer base. Manufacturers were forced to provide competitive pricing in order to preserve market share because of the plentiful supply and short replenishment cycles. Additionally, the softening price environment was influenced by weak export enquiries, particularly from Southeast Asia.
Similar trends were seen in the US market, where glutaraldehyde prices declined in May. Purchase volumes decreased as a result of a noticeable drop in pharmaceutical production activity brought on by slower-than-anticipated new drug launches and regulatory hold-ups. Additionally, the cosmetics industry saw slightly reduced production rates as producers adjusted their output to reflect declines in demand after the spring season. Additionally, a balanced supply chain and declining transportation costs put more downward pressure on market prices of Glutaraldehyde.
On the other hand, during May 2025, the price trend of glutaraldehyde in the Indian market remained steady. Stable offtakes from the pharmaceutical manufacturing hubs helped maintain pricing levels in the western region, especially in Maharashtra and Gujarat. In order to meet demand, pharmaceutical exporters kept up their regular procurement, particularly for sterilisation and disinfection applications. The overall demand curve remained stable due to the moderate level of cosmetic formulation activity in the northern and eastern regions. Any slack in other areas was counterbalanced by the robust purchasing activity in the southern region for Glutaraldehyde, which is home to multiple bulk drug manufacturing facilities. Price stability was also made possible by the continuous domestic supply and the lack of notable changes in the cost of raw materials or logistics.
According to ChemAnalyst, regional price differences may persist in the global glutaraldehyde market in the future. The Indian market is anticipated to retain its stable outlook due to consistent consumption from the pharmaceutical and cosmetic sectors, while China and the USA may face additional downward pressure due to weak downstream demand and high inventories. Price trends in the upcoming months for Glutaraldehyde, however, could be impacted by changes in the price of raw materials, seasonal demand, or the dynamics of international trade.
