China Anhydrous Chromic Acid Prices Fall 8.18% on Weak Export Demand and Rising Inventories

Nicholas Sparks 23-Jul-2026
China’s Anhydrous chromic acid market weakened in June as steady domestic production collided with softer demand from export and local buyers. Early to mid-month, integrated complexes ran near full utilization on reliable chromite inflows, keeping Anhydrous chromic acid availability comfortable. By mid-month, overseas buyers delayed spot procurement while domestic users absorbed pre-May purchases and resisted new contracts. Late-month inventory growth and competitive FOB quotes under the unchanged 13% VAT rebate increased spot supply and weakened sellers’ leverage. Demand pressure came from slower plate-coating and aerospace finishing orders, with buyers in India, Korea and Germany delaying purchases. Stainless-steel output also plateaued, reducing passivation chemical orders, while electroplating and machinery demand improved only moderately. Supply stayed heavy as chromite ore, sodium dichromate intermediates and stable power costs supported high output. Anhydrous chromic acid FOB Shanghai fell to $3,030.00/MT from $3,300.00/MT, an 8.18% monthly decline. ChemAnalyst expects further mild downside in July as inventories rise and restocking remains distant, though supply disruptions or renewed export interest could alter market direction. Overall, the Anhydrous chromic acid outlook remains cautious through summer trading cycles ahead.

China’s Anhydrous chromic acid market moved decisively lower in June as sustained domestic output met weaker demand at home and overseas. Early-to-mid June saw integrated complexes maintain near-full utilisation with steady chromite ore inflows, keeping Anhydrous chromic acid volumes readily available. By mid-month, export buyers delayed spot procurement and domestic end-users resisted new contracts while absorbing pre-May purchases. Late-month inventory accumulation and aggressive FOB quoting under the unchanged *** VAT rebate increased Anhydrous chromic acid spot availability, eroding sellers’ pricing leverage and shifting sentiment from balanced to supply-heavy.

Demand-side weakness drove much of the price correction. Export demand for plate-coating and aerospace finishing cooled as buyers in India, the Republic of Korea and Germany delayed spot purchases. Stainless-steel output plateaued, limiting orders for passivation chemicals, while domestic electroplating and machinery segments recorded only moderate growth. Against this backdrop, Anhydrous chromic acid FOB Shanghai closed...
