Welcome To ChemAnalyst
The Butyl glycol market in China experienced a notable downturn in July 2026, with prices for Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether (CFR Qingdao) falling by 1.63%. The decline was primarily driven by requirement-based buying and sufficient regional availability. Imports from South Korea remained an important source of supply, while stable freight costs on the South Korea-to-China route, at around 253–257, helped maintain competitive landed prices. The availability of imported material reduced the urgency among domestic buyers and limited suppliers' ability to increase offers.
Downstream demand for Butyl glycol remained uneven across end-use sectors. Architectural coatings and construction-related applications faced significant weakness because of continued pressure in China's property market. Paints, printing inks, and other solvent-consuming formulations also showed limited incremental growth. However, industrial cleaning and other essential industrial applications provided a stable consumption base and prevented a sharper price decline. Most buyers continued to purchase only according to immediate requirements rather than building inventories, keeping overall market activity subdued.
Looking forward, the Butyl glycol market outlook appears mixed. A small price recovery may occur in August as seasonal industrial activity improves, and some downstream manufacturers begin restocking. However, prices may fluctuate through the end of the year as buyers remain cautious and imported availability from South Korea continues to provide supply comfort. Stable freight costs between South Korea and China could further support competitive import economics, limiting upward price momentum. Conversely, firmer crude and energy costs could create some upside pressure through higher production and logistics costs. The main downside risk remains prolonged weakness in the coatings and construction sectors. Ultimately, Butyl glycol prices will depend on changes in downstream demand, South Korean import availability, freight costs, and domestic economic conditions.
