China Gum Rosin Prices Show Modest Growth in July as Exports Strengthen

Jane Austen 21-Aug-2026
China's gum rosin market posted a modest gain in July, aided by firmer export demand that offset softer domestic intake. Early July ran smoothly with pine-oleoresin tapping in Guangxi and Yunnan, while easing energy inputs supported margins. Mid-month, softer domestic manufacturing activity weighed on local purchases, but late-month export bookings to India and Indonesia and steady US soldering-flux demand kept selling prices under modest upward pressure at Huangpu. Overall, the market balanced slower home use with firmer export demand. Demand diverged by end-use: adhesives, printing inks and paper sizing cooled after PMI slipped below neutral, while rubber and tyre-related buying cooled as exports slowed. In contrast, resin-modifier and ester-gum converters in India and Indonesia pursued Chinese cargoes amid higher regional feedstock costs, and US demand for electronic fluxes added to exports. National capacity utilization eased with inventories comfortable and a maintenance event. The near-term view for gum rosin remains mixed: a modest August pullback followed by uneven recovery through winter.

China’s Gum Rosin market edged higher in July 2026 as firmer export activity offset weaker domestic offtake. Early in the month, processors maintained regular operating rates, while pine-oleoresin tapping in Guangxi and Yunnan remained seasonally normal. Softer energy costs supported processing margins. Mid-month weakness in domestic manufacturing reduced local purchases, but stronger export bookings to India and Indonesia, alongside steady US soldering-flux demand, enabled Gum Rosin sellers at Huangpu to secure modest upward adjustments. Overall, Gum Rosin trading reflected a balance between subdued home-market consumption and firmer export outlets.

Demand patterns diverged across downstream sectors. Adhesives, printing inks and paper-sizing producers reduced purchases as manufacturing activity weakened, while rubber and tyre-related buying also softened. Conversely, resin modifiers and ester-gum converters in India and Indonesia showed greater interest in Chinese Gum Rosin cargoes amid elevated regional feedstock costs. Steady US requirements for electronic soldering fluxes provided additional support to exports. ChemAnalyst data indicated lower rosin-processing utilisation during the month, reflecting domestic softness despite stronger export opportunities.

Supply fundamentals for Gum Rosin remained broadly supportive. Pine-oleoresin procurement costs were stable because tapping conditions across Guangxi and Yunnan followed normal seasonal patterns, while lower coal and energy inputs eased processing expenses. Huangpu inventories remained comfortable, allowing processors to fulfil forward commitments while maintaining firmer offers for August shipment slots. Guangxi Jinxiu Songyuan Forest Products conducted an eight-day maintenance shutdown in mid-July, but the temporary interruption did not materially tighten Gum Rosin availability.

Intra-month developments explain the modest July increase in Gum Rosin values. Early-month supply and feedstock flows were steady, while domestic buying weakened around mid-month. At the same time, export loadings to India and Indonesia increased through mid- and late July, allowing exporters to offset weaker domestic consumption and support selected FOB Huangpu positions. With no widespread environmental restrictions or major production disruptions, the July movement in Gum Rosin was driven primarily by demand reallocation rather than a supply shock.

Looking ahead, ChemAnalyst expects Gum Rosin to face modest downward pressure in August as comfortable Huangpu inventories, normal pine-oleoresin availability and steady processor operations keep export supply accessible. The absence of a major supply disruption should limit sellers’ pricing leverage, while softer Chinese manufacturing activity may restrain local purchasing. However, continued export enquiries from India and Indonesia and stable US soldering-flux requirements could cushion the decline. Freight costs, insurance surcharges and geopolitical developments remain key uncertainties for August. Overall, the August outlook for Gum Rosin is softer but relatively balanced, with export demand likely preventing a sharper correction.
