China’s lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF*) market strengthened markedly through August **** after a volatile July. Early July weakness gave way to tighter conditions as rising LFP production and higher electrolyte operating rates increased consumption of lithium hexafluorophosphate. By late July and August, stronger battery-sector demand, elevated lithium-salt costs and firmer anhydrous hydrofluoric acid (AHF) economics encouraged suppliers to lift offers. In our view, the August recovery reflects a genuine improvement in the underlying supply-demand balance, although it remains too early to characterize the move as a structural shortage.
Battery production has provided the clearest demand signal for lithium hexafluorophosphate. China’s combined power and energy-storage battery output reached ***.* GWh in June, up **.** year on year and *.** month on month, while first-half production reached *,***.* GWh, up **.** year on year. Combined battery sales reached ***.* GWh, up **.** year on year. LFP demand...
