Clariant expands stabilizer production and innovations in China, targeting artificial turf and medical plastics with durable, sustainable additive solutions.
Clariant, a global leader in specialty chemicals, is strategically expanding its capabilities in plastic stabilizers in response to the rising worldwide demand, particularly in Asia. The company has announced both a significant production boost in China and the development of cutting-edge stabilizer applications that address performance challenges in sectors such as artificial turf and medical devices.
At the heart of this initiative is Clariant’s joint venture with Beijing Tiangang Auxiliary Co., Ltd., which has successfully completed the chemical commissioning of a second S-EED production line at its Cangzhou facility. This line is dedicated to the production of Nylostab S-EED, a high-performance, multi-functional stabilizer tailored for the needs of the fast-growing Chinese nylon industry. This expansion strengthens Clariant's position in servicing the textile and engineering plastics sectors in China and the broader Asian market.
Mariano Suarez, Head of Marketing Additives at Clariant, emphasized the strategic nature of this investment. He stated, “This expansion represents a strategic investment in our ability to serve the rapidly growing Asian market for high-performance stabilizers. The ongoing success of our partnership with Tiangang reflects our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that meet evolving market demands.”
One of the notable new applications of Nylostab S-EED is in nylon-based artificial turf systems for sports fields. Manufacturers of artificial turf are increasingly looking for solutions that can withstand harsh weather, UV radiation, and heavy usage while retaining aesthetic quality. Nylostab S-EED offers superior protection against light, heat, and oxidation, making turf installations more durable and visually stable over time. According to Suarez, “Our Nylostab S-EED technology offers excellent UV and cleaning resistance, helping maintain vibrant appearance and structural integrity even under high-traffic and sunny conditions.”
The stabilizer was developed using a molecular recognition approach, ensuring excellent solubility in nylon. This strong compatibility with polyamide chains enhances the material's resistance and durability, making it an ideal choice for demanding applications.
In addition to Nylostab S-EED, Clariant is introducing another innovative product: AddWorks LXR 548, a phenol-free antioxidant solution designed for use in polyolefin plastics. This stabilizer addresses the growing need to eliminate phenolic compounds in sensitive applications such as medical devices and hygiene products. AddWorks LXR 548 ensures excellent color stability even after exposure to gamma radiation and high temperatures.
Emilie Meddah, Market Manager Additives at Clariant, highlighted the product’s importance: “AddWorks LXR 548 enables superior protection and color retention, making it suitable for items like syringes, non-woven fabrics, and plastic bottles that require strict compliance with safety and performance standards.”
Its low extractability, high compatibility, and favorable toxicological profile make AddWorks LXR 548 ideal for medical-grade applications, a segment witnessing robust global growth.
Through these technological advancements and capacity expansions, Clariant reinforces its leadership in delivering specialized chemical solutions that align with market demands, support regulatory compliance, and contribute to creating more durable, sustainable, and efficient plastic products.
