In preparation for the upcoming K 2025 trade fair in Duesseldorf, Clariant has unveiled its latest innovation: a new line of PFAS-free polymer processing aids (PPAs) under the AddWorks brand. Specifically developed for polyolefin extrusion applications, these next-generation additives offer a sustainable alternative to conventional fluoropolymer-based solutions, aligning with the industry's evolving regulatory and environmental expectations.
The newly launched AddWorks PPA line features two distinct products—AddWorks PPA 101 FG and AddWorks PPA 122 G. AddWorks PPA 101 FG is tailored for the EMEA, Americas and Southeast Asia Pacific (SEAP) markets, while AddWorks PPA 122 G is designed for the Greater China and SEAP regions. Both formulations are now commercially available, offering manufacturers timely, compliant options amid tightening global regulations on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
“Our new AddWorks PPA product line represents a significant breakthrough in sustainable polymer processing,” said Diederik Goyvaerts, Global Business Development Manager for Polymer Solutions at Clariant. “By delivering PFAS-free solutions that match or even exceed the performance of traditional processing aids, we are helping our customers stay ahead of changing regulatory landscapes while preserving the quality their end users demand.”
Importantly, the AddWorks PPA range is entirely free from PFAS, as well as from inorganic, silicone or polysiloxane-based ingredients. This composition not only ensures compliance with emerging regulations but also makes the additives suitable for food contact and packaging applications. The products further support recyclability in accordance with the forthcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), making them ideal for brands pursuing sustainability targets.
Functionally, the new processing aids deliver multiple benefits. They enhance extrusion efficiency, eliminate sharkskin defects, and ensure superior film surface quality. In addition, they do not compromise optical or mechanical properties, nor do they affect key downstream parameters such as sealability, coefficient of friction or dyne level.
AddWorks PPA 101 FG is offered as a 100% active fine grain material that can be used directly or via masterbatch or concentrate. AddWorks PPA 122 G is supplied in masterbatch form, simplifying adoption through compatibility with existing dosing levels.
These PFAS-free solutions are suited to a variety of applications, including polyethylene blown and cast film processes used across packaging, agriculture, and construction sectors. Film converters will particularly benefit from the improved surface quality and production efficiency.
Clariant’s launch of the AddWorks PPA line underscores its commitment to developing innovative, sustainable technologies that meet industry performance standards while supporting global regulatory compliance and environmental responsibility.
