Cosmo Films launches advanced BOPP, CPP and BOPET packaging films for pet food, enhancing safety, barrier performance, and shelf life.

Cosmo Films has significantly broadened its flexible packaging portfolio with the launch of a comprehensive range of specialty films designed specifically for pet food packaging applications. The newly introduced solutions are based on BOPP, CPP, and BOPET technologies and have been engineered to meet the increasingly stringent requirements of safety, durability, and shelf-life performance demanded by the rapidly evolving pet food sector. With this move, Cosmo Films reinforces its focus on delivering advanced, food-safe packaging solutions tailored to high-growth consumer segments.

India’s pet food market is witnessing robust expansion, fueled by rising pet adoption, increasing urbanization, and a clear trend toward premium and specialized pet nutrition. As pet parents become more discerning about quality, nutrition, and safety, the importance of packaging that can preserve freshness, ensure hygiene, and enhance brand appeal has grown substantially. Responding to these dynamics, Cosmo Films has introduced an expanded portfolio of specialty films that address the functional, aesthetic, and regulatory needs of both dry and wet pet food products.

A key highlight of the launch is the company’s new TR-BOPP heat-resistant transparent film. This innovative film can withstand temperatures of up to 185 degrees Celsius and offers a uniform linear tear property, making it a strong alternative to traditional PET-based print layers commonly used in pet food packaging. By providing improved heat resistance and mechanical performance, the TR-BOPP film enhances processing efficiency while supporting safer and more reliable packaging structures.

In addition to TR-BOPP, the new portfolio includes anti-fog transparent BOPET lidding films that improve product visibility and consumer experience. The range also features COPET-coated BOPET films, developed to deliver superior adhesion and machinability, enabling smoother performance on high-speed packaging lines. For applications requiring enhanced protection, Cosmo Films has introduced coated metallized BOPET films that provide excellent oxygen and moisture barrier properties, making them suitable for both sensitive dry formulations and moisture-rich wet pet food products.

The company has also addressed sustainability and performance concerns in dry pet food, treats, and functional nutrition categories through its Ultra High Barrier (UHB) metallized BOPP films. These films are designed to act as a sustainable alternative to aluminum foil by reducing material complexity while still offering robust barrier protection against oxygen and moisture. For ready-to-eat and retort pet food segments, Cosmo Films offers retort-grade CPP films capable of withstanding high-temperature processing without compromising food safety or shelf-life integrity.

Commenting on the expansion, Pankaj Poddar, Group CEO of Cosmo First, emphasized that the pet food category is undergoing rapid transformation, requiring packaging solutions to evolve in parallel. He noted that Cosmo Films is leveraging not only its deep expertise in specialty films but also valuable insights gained from building Zigly, the group’s fast-growing pet care business. This direct exposure to pet parent behavior and product expectations has enabled the company to engineer packaging films that deliver enhanced safety, superior barrier performance, greater convenience, and stronger brand differentiation.

The expanded range is supported by Cosmo Films’ globally recognized food-safe manufacturing standards, including FSSC 22000 certification and FDA-compliant structures. These credentials ensure that the films can be seamlessly deployed across a wide variety of dry and wet pet food applications while meeting international quality and safety benchmarks.

Overall, Cosmo Films’ entry into pet-food-ready packaging films aligns with its broader strategy of expanding into high-value, high-growth segments within flexible packaging. Backed by strong research and development capabilities, multi-technology manufacturing platforms, and global certifications, the company continues to drive innovation in categories where performance, safety, and sustainability are critical. This latest launch positions Cosmo Films as a key partner for pet food brands seeking reliable, future-ready packaging solutions.
