DOMO Chemicals, headquartered in Leuna, Germany, has significantly expanded its compounding operations in Mumbai, India, marking a strategic step forward in supporting regional demand for high-performance engineered materials. This move positions DOMO as a stronger solutions provider in South Asia and broadens its portfolio of advanced materials, including polyamides and other high-value resins, designed to meet the evolving needs of India’s industrial landscape.

India’s rapid industrialization—especially in electric mobility, automotive, and electronics—is fueling a growing demand for lightweight, heat- and flame-resistant, and sustainable plastics. These materials are essential in the development of components for smart devices, automotive systems, and electronic connectors. With the expanded production capabilities at the Mumbai site, DOMO will now be able to produce these materials locally, reducing lead times and enhancing its responsiveness to customers in India and across Asia.

Soumya Mishra, head of engineered materials business for India at DOMO, emphasized the strategic benefits of the investment. “The establishment of the new line shortens the delivery timeline for our Indian and other Asian customers,” Mishra said. “It will also be accompanied by increased technical support from our local R&D team to help our clients achieve their innovation ambitions.”

The new compounding line features advanced manufacturing technology designed to integrate sustainable production practices. DOMO has focused on reducing energy consumption, lowering carbon emissions, and minimizing industrial waste, without compromising the high performance and consistency of its materials. This aligns with the company’s long-term commitment to environmental responsibility and circular economy principles.

A prime example of DOMO’s innovation in sustainable manufacturing is its TECHNYL® 4EARTH® product line, which features polyamides made from post-consumer recycled materials. One standout product, developed from recycled fishing nets and textiles, has been used in TATA TOYO’s automotive fan and shroud systems. This PA6-based material was recognized at the Recycled Plastic Products Show, earning top honors for its environmental contribution and functional performance.

The expansion in India complements DOMO’s recent efforts to scale up operations across Asia, including the launch of a TECHNYL manufacturing facility in China in 2023. These investments are part of a broader regional strategy to strengthen supply chain resilience and accelerate the delivery of advanced material solutions across key growth markets.

“India stands out as one of our fastest-growing markets globally,” said Ron Bult, general manager for Asia at DOMO. “This capacity expansion reinforces our supply chain resilience and our long-term dedication to rapid response, innovation and sustainable growth in the region.”

By deepening its presence in Asia, DOMO aims to provide next-generation engineered plastics that support smarter mobility, safer electronic systems, and a more sustainable future. The Mumbai expansion represents a significant milestone in this journey, ensuring DOMO remains a trusted and agile partner to its customers across India and beyond.
