DuPont has expanded its healthcare manufacturing facility in Heredia, Costa Rica, enhancing its capacity to meet the growing demands of the global medical device industry. The recent development includes a 16,000-square-foot addition that supports sterile packaging production and boosts existing medical tubing operations.
The expanded facility now houses advanced extrusion equipment and additional production lines designed to manufacture sterile packaging products made with Tyvek®, including pouches, header bags and lids. The upgrade also greatly enhances the site’s capacity for producing extruded tubing. DuPont’s Heredia site now operates on a 24/7 production schedule to better support both existing and new healthcare customers across the Caribbean and the Americas.
The expanded facility, certified to ISO 13485:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 standards, features enhanced technical, assembly and packaging capabilities supported by state-of-the-art equipment. The staff at the site follows stringent quality assurance protocols to meet the high regulatory standards expected in the healthcare sector.
“With this expansion, we are now the first company in Costa Rica and the Caribbean to offer both fluid management and sterile packaging solutions for the medical device industry,” said James Chambers, senior vice president and general manager for Fluids & Flexibles at Spectrum Plastics Group, a DuPont business. “This milestone significantly strengthens our comprehensive portfolio and enhances our role as a reliable supply chain partner to leading global healthcare companies.”
DuPont’s expanded capabilities in Heredia are part of the company’s broader healthcare strategy, which includes providing high-performance materials, component and device solutions, and advanced technologies. The company’s healthcare portfolio features extruded tubing and subassemblies, catheter assembly, medical balloons, wearable devices, skin-contact technologies, and sterile packaging solutions.
Beyond sterile packaging, DuPont’s medical manufacturing expertise spans additive manufacturing, laser processing, precision injection molding, medical device fabrication, and machining. These offerings are enabled by the use of Tyvek®, a trusted material known for its durability and sterilization compatibility in medical applications.
DuPont continues to support a broad spectrum of critical healthcare applications by integrating innovation, premium materials, and comprehensive service solutions. The Heredia facility’s expansion reflects the company’s commitment to investing in scalable, reliable manufacturing infrastructure that aligns with the evolving needs of the global healthcare market.
