DuPont revolutionizes worker safety with the launch of Tyvek® APX™, a new chemical garment fabric at A+A 2025 in Dusseldorf.
DuPont today announced a significant leap forward in personal protective equipment (PPE) with the unveiling of Tyvek® APX™, a disposable chemical garment fabric designed to tackle one of the most persistent issues in workplace safety: the trade-off between protection and worker comfort. Launched at the prestigious A+A 2025 trade fair in Dusseldorf, Germany, the new material is the most advanced iteration of the Tyvek® line to date, offering outstanding levels of breathability that redefine the standard for protective coveralls.
The development of Tyvek® APX™ is the result of extensive scientific research and close collaboration with end-users across high-risk sectors such as pharmaceuticals, chemical processing, utilities, and heavy manufacturing. These industries have placed an increasing focus on worker well-being and the prevention of heat stress, driven by both corporate responsibility and evolving safety regulations.
"With the launch of Tyvek® APX™, we've created a new and revolutionary form of Tyvek® material that addresses one of the most problematic health and safety challenges – how to make garments more breathable without sacrificing performance or durability," said Dave Kee, Global Business Director, DuPont Personal Protection.
Traditional chemical protective garments often hinder the body’s ability to dissipate heat, leading to discomfort and potentially dangerous overheating, especially in physically demanding or hot environments. Tyvek® APX™ directly addresses this by representing a breakthrough in breathability, engineered to allow moisture to escape and air to circulate efficiently. This ultimate balance of comfort and protection is intended to help workers perform at their best while remaining safe.
DuPont is positioning the comfort of Tyvek® APX™ not just as a feature, but as a science-backed enhancement to worker well-being. The properties of the new fabric have been rigorously validated by an independent physiological study conducted by Empa. This study measured the physiological changes in workers wearing both traditional chemical protective garments and Tyvek® APX™ coveralls under different environmental conditions and activity levels, confirming the fabric’s enhanced breathability credentials.
Further validation came from global customer wear trials involving nearly 300 participants across various regions and applications. These garments were tested in extremes of temperature and humidity, and during work ranging from low to high intensity. The results were conclusive: wearers showed a clear preference for the high-breathability Tyvek® APX™ fabric, demonstrating a tangible improvement in on-the-job comfort.
