Emirates Global Aluminium, the UAE's largest industrial company, and the Aluminium Corporation of China (Chinalco) have signed a framework agreement to advance their collaboration on developing an alumina refinery in the Republic of Guinea.

The signing ceremony was attended by His Excellency Mohammad Hassan Al Suwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment; His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade; His Excellency Ling Ji, Vice Minister and Deputy International Trade Representative of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China; and Mr. Zhang Yujing, President of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products. The framework agreement was signed by Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, and Mr. Dong Jianxiong, Vice President of Chinalco and Chalco, at the UAE-China Business & Investment Forum in Beijing.

The companies now plan to advance the project's feasibility and joint investment efforts collaboratively.

EGA is the parent company of Guinea Alumina Corporation, which operates a bauxite mine and associated export facilities in the Boké province of Guinea.

EGA is a globally integrated aluminum powerhouse, boasting top-tier operations across the entire aluminum value chain, spanning from bauxite mining to cast metal production. Emirates Global Aluminium is founded on the legacy of two pioneering aluminium companies. Over the past four decades, EGA has been advancing its business, innovating in the aluminium sector to enhance modern life globally, benefiting the communities in which it operates, and enriching people's lives. EGA operates aluminum smelters in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, an alumina refinery in Abu Dhabi, and a bauxite mine with export facilities in the Republic of Guinea, along with a specialty foundry in Germany. The Jebel Ali smelter in Dubai, operational since 1979, has undergone eight expansions and now spans an area five times larger than the Dubai Mall. The Al Taweelah smelter in Abu Dhabi, once the world's largest single-site aluminum smelter upon its construction, occupies an area five times larger than Al Maryah Island. Adjacent to the Abu Dhabi smelter is the Al Taweelah alumina refinery, the first of its kind in the UAE and only the second in the Middle East. Guinea Alumina Corporation, a fully-owned subsidiary of EGA, manages a 690-square kilometer mining concession and a port at Kamsar on the coast of Guinea. Leichtmetall, located in Europe, specializes in producing hard alloys and large diameter billets using a high proportion of secondary aluminum.
