Epiroc, a prominent global partner in productivity and sustainability for the mining and construction industries, has secured a significant order for surface mining equipment from Pilbara Minerals, to be utilized at a major lithium mine in Australia. Pilbara Minerals, the largest independent hard rock lithium producer globally, has ordered a fleet of 14 Epiroc SmartROC D65 surface drill rigs for its Pilgangoora Operation located in Western Australia. Lithium, a crucial component in the production of batteries, is increasingly vital in supporting the global shift towards electrification, which is essential for reducing carbon emissions.

The order was confirmed in the third quarter of 2024, and in addition to the equipment, Epiroc will also supply spare parts to ensure smooth operation. Helena Hedblom, Epiroc's President and CEO, emphasized the importance of lithium in the ongoing global transition to electrification. She noted that lithium's role in enabling the production of hybrid and electric vehicles continues to expand as societies strive to lower emissions. "We are pleased to support Pilbara Minerals in optimizing their operations at such a crucial time," said Hedblom.

Epiroc's SmartROC D65 drill rigs are designed for durability and come equipped with advanced features aimed at enhancing both safety and productivity. These rigs are recognized for their ability to perform efficiently in tough mining environments, making them well-suited for Pilbara Minerals' demanding operations. The delivery of the drill rigs is scheduled to begin in September 2024, with completion expected by early 2025. This large-scale equipment order underscores the growing demand for lithium in the context of the global electrification movement and further strengthens Epiroc’s position as a key provider of mining solutions.
