Evonik and Fuhua completed a specialty-grade hydrogen peroxide plant in China to serve growing high-purity industrial demand sustainably.
Evonik and Fuhua have successfully completed the construction of their new specialty-grade hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production facility located in Leshan, Sichuan Province, China. This important project has been developed under the joint venture known as Evonik Fuhua New Materials, formed through the partnership between Evonik and Fuhua Tongda Chemicals Company (Fuhua). The new plant is designed to convert industrial-grade hydrogen peroxide into high-purity specialty grades that are required for advanced industrial applications. With construction now finished, the facility is entering the trial production phase, and the first commercial output is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2026.
The plant operates using licensed technology from Evonik’s Active Oxygens business line, which is recognized globally for its expertise in hydrogen peroxide purification and specialty chemical solutions. Fuhua will provide industrial-grade hydrogen peroxide as the main raw material, which will then be refined into specialty-grade products suitable for industries that demand extremely high purity standards. These industries include solar cell manufacturing, semiconductor production, food packaging, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical applications. The plant has been built with an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons, making it a significant contributor to meeting the rising demand for premium hydrogen peroxide products across the Asia-Pacific region.
Christian Kullmann, Chairman of the Executive Board of Evonik, highlighted the strategic value of this partnership and described it as a strong example of successful international cooperation. He stated that Evonik’s leadership in the global specialty chemicals market is based on continuous innovation, strong technological expertise, and an extensive international network. According to him, this project demonstrates how Evonik can combine its advanced technology platforms with Fuhua’s strong industrial infrastructure and local market understanding. This collaboration will allow both companies to deliver high-quality solutions not only to customers in China but also to clients across global markets.
Dr. Claus Rettig, interim Chief Financial Officer of Evonik and President of Evonik Asia Pacific, also emphasized the importance of the facility for strengthening the company’s regional operations. He explained that the new plant will significantly improve Evonik’s supply capabilities and service efficiency throughout the Asia-Pacific region, especially within China, where demand for high-purity hydrogen peroxide is growing rapidly. Through local manufacturing and cooperation, Evonik will be able to respond faster and more effectively to customer requirements while ensuring a stable and reliable supply of specialty-grade hydrogen peroxide products.
Fuhua Chairman Zhang Hua described the partnership as a major step forward in the company’s transformation toward more advanced and globally competitive operations. He noted that working with Evonik supports Fuhua’s goal of moving into higher-end specialty chemical production and expanding its international presence. Zhang also mentioned that the project aligns well with China’s national priorities in areas such as new energy development, advanced manufacturing, and the future growth of the chemical industry. He believes the facility will further strengthen Fuhua’s competitiveness and contribute positively to the country’s industrial development goals.
Hydrogen peroxide is considered one of the most versatile and valuable chemicals used across multiple industries. It is essential in sectors such as electronics, renewable energy, medical products, and aseptic packaging. One of its major environmental advantages is that after use, hydrogen peroxide decomposes naturally into only oxygen and water, leaving no harmful residues behind. This gives it a strong environmental benefit and makes it a preferred solution for sustainable industrial applications. The completion of this new plant reflects both companies’ commitment to innovation, sustainability, and supporting the growing demand for cleaner and more efficient chemical solutions.
