Focus Graphite Advanced Materials Inc. has announced successfully refining its Lac Knife flake graphite concentrate to an exceptional 99.999 wt.% C (5N) purity. This monumental achievement, independently verified by American Energy Technologies Company (AETC), positions Focus Graphite as a potential key supplier of ultra-high-purity graphite for the nuclear energy sector, a market dominated by synthetic graphite and a limited number of established producers.

The rigorous thermal purification process, conducted at AETC's Wheeling, Illinois, facility, involved heating the Lac Knife material under an inert gas atmosphere at 2,800°C. Crucially, this remarkable purity was achieved without the use of halogen gases, highlighting Focus Graphite's commitment to environmentally safer processes. The results, reaching an astounding 99.9992 wt.% C, not only exceeded expectations but also lay a robust foundation for the company's ambitious transition into the nuclear-grade material purity specification.

This technological leap opens a new and lucrative downstream market entry point for Focus Graphite. The company's Lac Knife Project, recognized as one of North America's most advanced high-purity natural graphite deposits, is on the cusp of completing its mine permitting process. This development couldn't come at a more opportune time, as global momentum unmistakably shifts towards energy resilience and the urgent need for clean energy solutions.

Jason Latkowcer, Vice President, Corporate Development at Focus Graphite, emphasized the significance of this achievement. "As global momentum shifts toward energy resilience, and surging electricity demand driven by AI, data centers, and electrification, nuclear power is regaining critical importance. Focus continues to progress towards our goal of supplying secure, high-purity natural graphite from a domestic North American source. Beyond the 5N precursor, we intend to further process the 5N purified power into specific market segments within the nuclear graphite market."

The timing of this breakthrough aligns perfectly with a significant resurgence in nuclear energy investment across North America. Canada, with Ontario leading the G7, is actively constructing the world's first grid-scale Small Modular Reactor (SMR) at the Darlington site, signaling a critical step in its clean energy transformation. Similarly, in the United States, recent executive orders from President Trump have underscored the prioritization of reviving and expanding domestic nuclear energy capacity, further intensifying the demand for vital materials like nuclear-grade graphite.

Focus Graphite's strategic roadmap includes continued rigorous testing and validation of its 5N graphite for various nuclear applications, alongside evaluating optimal commercial pathways to serve this premium market.
