A significant development in China's petrochemical industry has been marked by the successful commencement of operations at Fuzhou Wanjing Petrochemical Co Ltd.'s 900,000-ton propane dehydrogenation to propylene project (PDH3). The project, located in the Jiangyin Development Zone, Fuqing, was undertaken by Shaanxi Construction Engineering Group Corp Ltd.

The milestone was achieved on May 15. Following rigorous testing, it has been confirmed that the polymer-grade propylene produced by the facility has met international advanced standards. This achievement signifies a substantial leap in the construction capabilities related to propane dehydrogenation devices. It also reinforces Shaanxi Chemical Construction's competitive standing within the petrochemical sector.

Upon reaching full production capacity, this project will significantly boost Fujian Zhongjing Petrochemical Group's total propylene output to 2.7 million tons annually. This increase will solidify the group's leading position both domestically and internationally within the propane dehydrogenation industry. The project is also expected to provide a major boost to the high-quality development of the new materials industry chain in the southeast coastal region of China.

Project Details

Project Name: Wanjing Petrochemical 900,000 tons per year propane dehydrogenation to propylene project

Construction Unit: Fuzhou Wanjing Petrochemical Co., Ltd.

             Process Used: LUMMUS's CATOFIN process

Construction Content: The project involves the construction of a 900,000 tons/year propane dehydrogenation unit for propylene production. It also includes a PSA hydrogen extraction unit, and supporting facilities such as a circulating water field, a substation, and connecting pipelines to the Zhongjing Science Park. Existing public buildings and auxiliary projects within the Shangjing New Materials Project, Zhongjing Science Park, and other pre-existing facilities will also be utilized.

Construction Site: Western Chemical Industry Zone, Jiangyin Port Economic Zone, Fuzhou, Fuqing City

Zhongjing Petrochemical Science and Technology Park

The broader context of this project involves the larger Zhongjing Petrochemical Science and Technology Park, which represents a total investment of 50 billion yuan. Notably, this park is currently unique in the world for having a complete industrial chain. This chain spans from liquefied petroleum gas terminals and cryogenic tank areas to the production of propane, propylene, polypropylene, and polypropylene film.

Once the Zhongjing Petrochemical Science and Technology Park reaches its full operational capacity, it is projected to become the world's largest propane dehydrogenation to propylene enterprise, with an annual output of 3.8 million tons. Additionally, it is expected to be the world's largest single-plant polypropylene enterprise, with an annual output of 4 million tons. This development is poised to make a significant contribution to the advancement of China's manufacturing sector.
