German 2-Ethylhexyl Acrylate Prices Edge Up on Rising Feedstock Costs and Post-Holiday Demand

Peter Schmidt 23-Sep-2025

After experiencing the declining trend, the 2-ethylhexyl acrylate market in Germany experienced a slight week-on-week rise of 0.64% during the week ending September 19. This incline in the 2-ethylhexyl acrylate prices was witnessed by the combination of upstream cost pressures and some buying activity that had returned to the market after the prolonged summer holiday.

Both feedstocks, 2-ethylhexanol and acrylic acid, experienced an increase in prices. 2-ethylhexanol has gone up by 2.81%, while acrylic acid has risen by 0.74%. These increases have an immediate effect on the production costs of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, a monomer that is predominantly used in adhesives, coatings, and sealants. The basic drivers of the increase in prices on these feedstocks are tight supply and high energy costs throughout Europe.

In addition to the cost burden, labour costs in the euro area increased considerably. According to Eurostat, on average, hourly labour costs increased by 3.6% in the eurozone and by 4.0% in the EU in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year. Labour costs in the construction sector increased even more sharply - 4.7% - reflecting both inflation and wage pressures in the overall economy. Higher labour costs are experiencing flow-through down the value chain, adding to manufacturers' and suppliers' operational costs of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate.

Market conditions also experienced a change after buyers returned from the summer holiday. The appetite for purchasing restarted, which ignited demand for 2-ethylhexyl acrylate to support the rising price trend. Many distributors indicated they were getting more inquiries and placing more restocking orders, especially among coatings and adhesives segments, in preparation for the fall production schedule.

Therefore, due to the restart of the procurement activities with the conclusion of the summer holiday, along with the increased input costs, suppliers slightly raised their ex-quotations upwards to reflect the current market sentiments of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate in Germany.

Although the price gain is modest in scope, industry analysts suggest that a price uptrend can be sustained if input costs remain volatile and demand remains solid. The atmosphere is stable and does not have dramatic swings, but cumulative upward price input and seasonal demand for 2-ethylhexyl acrylate have produced an initial state of bullishness among suppliers.

As we look ahead, participants are observing energy markets, labor dynamics, and international supply chain developments. Further disruptions or cost increases could add further pricing pressure to 2-ethylhexyl acrylate. Presently, the German market maintains a sense of caution but optimism, driven by a surge in demand and restrictions on the supply of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate that are being managed well.
