Grupo Lantero’s ReKeepEat packaging enhances freshness, reduces waste, supports recyclability, and wins major sustainability and packaging innovation awards.
Grupo Lantero has unveiled a new sustainable packaging innovation, ReKeepEat, aimed at enhancing product freshness while significantly reducing food waste. This advanced packaging solution is developed by Coexpan and Emsur, subsidiaries of the Lantero Group, and was entirely conceptualized and created at Innotech, the group's collaborative innovation hub.
ReKeepEat features a 100% mono-material PET tray and lid that utilize state-of-the-art resealing technology. This enables users to open and reseal the packaging multiple times without compromising its integrity or protective functions. The solution offers a dual benefit—ensuring extended product freshness and supporting environmental goals through better recyclability and reduced material use.
Walter Turci, R&D Director at Coexpan, emphasized that every design aspect of ReKeepEat was guided by eco-design principles: minimizing material consumption and reducing environmental impact across the product’s entire life cycle—from production to disposal. The use of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for both the tray and lid is a strategic choice. It eliminates material mixing, streamlining recycling processes and promoting a true circular economy. Furthermore, PET offers the flexibility of incorporating recycled content, which strengthens its environmental credentials.
ReKeepEat is not just a sustainable choice—it’s also highly functional and adaptable. It is designed to suit various food categories, including sliced meats, whole meats, and ready-made meals. The packaging supports both vacuum-sealed and modified atmosphere conditions, offering broad versatility. Its robust yet lightweight design allows consumers to carry larger, family-sized portions easily and use them over time, thanks to the resealable feature.
The introduction of ReKeepEat marks a reaffirmation of Grupo Lantero’s dedication to responsible packaging and sustainable innovation. According to Álvaro Bernard, Corporate Director of Innovation, Marketing, and Sustainability at Grupo Lantero, the product exemplifies how innovation can be a powerful driver of sustainability and new market opportunities. "With ReKeepEat, we reinforce our vision for packaging that delivers real environmental and customer value," Bernard said.
ReKeepEat has already gained notable industry recognition. It won first place in the Large Company category at the 5th Ecodesign Competition, organized by the CONAMA Foundation, one of the leading eco-design contests in the sector. The jury lauded the solution for its commitment to sustainability, ease of recycling, and practical design—highlighting it as a key development in the packaging space.
Further affirming its impact, ReKeepEat has also received the 2025 Foodtech Innovation Award as the most “Disruptive Solution in the Packaging Market”. Additionally, it is a finalist for the 2025 Sustainability Awards organized by Packaging Europe magazine, with the winners to be announced in November in Utrecht.
