HPQ Silicon accelerates North American battery production, launching GEN3 cells by Q3 2025 through a concurrent partnership with Novacium.

HPQ Silicon Inc., a Canadian tech firm specializing in advanced materials and critical process innovations, has unveiled a significant shift in its strategic roadmap with the signing of a new industrial collaboration agreement with its French partner, NOVACIUM SAS. This fresh agreement marks a critical pivot in HPQ’s battery commercialization timeline, accelerating the company’s entrance into North America’s competitive battery market.

Initially, HPQ and Novacium had envisioned a two-step approach to commercializing their GEN3 battery technology. In the original plan, Novacium would first spearhead production and marketing activities, with HPQ entering the production phase subsequently. However, due to growing market momentum and increased interest from North American stakeholders, this phased approach has evolved into a more aggressive parallel strategy. Under the revised plan, HPQ will now initiate its battery production operations concurrently with Novacium, enabling a faster rollout of GEN3 battery cells on both sides of the Atlantic.

This strategic shift follows Novacium’s June 18, 2025, announcement that it had officially begun industrial-scale production of high-performance battery cells. That announcement triggered significant interest across North America, prompting HPQ to reconsider its timeline. The resulting discussions between HPQ and Novacium led to a new industrial agreement signed on July 2, 2025, which empowers HPQ to commence its own battery manufacturing using GEN3 anode material technology without delay.

The concurrent production model aims to satisfy the urgent and growing demand for next-generation batteries in key sectors such as electric mobility, consumer electronics, telecommunications, and Canada’s defence industry. HPQ’s Q3 2025 target includes commercializing two specific battery formats: the 18650 cell with a 4,000 mAh capacity, and the 21700 cell with a 6,000 mAh capacity. These high-performance batteries are designed to offer enhanced energy density and longer cycling lifespans, traits crucial for modern applications.

According to HPQ’s President and CEO, Bernard Tourillon, the new agreement represents a pivotal moment in the company’s commercialization journey. “Launching simultaneous production with Novacium allows HPQ to maximize the value of our exclusive license and establish a firm foothold in the North American market by the end of Q3 2025,” said Tourillon. “This strategic realignment shows our commitment to agile, focused execution and early revenue generation.”

The collaboration leverages Novacium’s proven success in integrating GEN3 materials into conventional battery production lines, allowing HPQ to scale quickly without major technological barriers. This partnership not only strengthens HPQ’s technological capabilities but also extends the global reach of Novacium’s energy storage innovations.

Dr. Jed Kraiem, Ph.D., Head of Novacium, emphasized the mutual benefits of the updated strategy: “This agreement with HPQ reflects our shared goal of accelerating innovation deployment. Enabling concurrent production helps both companies meet increasing global demand for energy-efficient, high-performance batteries.”

Tourillon further noted that this approach signals a broader shift in HPQ’s commercial philosophy—one that prioritizes dynamic partnerships and faster paths to market over the slower, more traditional rollout strategies of the past.

As HPQ positions itself for a major Q3 market entry, its strengthened alliance with Novacium demonstrates a shared commitment to transforming cutting-edge battery innovations into commercial reality on a global scale.
