HS Hyosung Advanced Materials, a recognized global leader in carbon fiber innovation, has achieved a major sustainability milestone by securing ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification PLUS). This internationally acknowledged certification underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable production practices, supply chain transparency, and the development of next-generation eco-friendly materials. By earning this certification, HS Hyosung establishes a verified framework that incorporates both plant-based inputs and recycled resources into its carbon fiber production process.
The ISCC PLUS certification is considered one of the most rigorous standards for validating sustainability practices across industries. It ensures the traceability and accountability of bio-based and recycled feedstocks throughout the entire lifecycle—from raw material sourcing to production, distribution, and final application. HS Hyosung’s certified bio-AN (bio-acrylonitrile) carbon fiber demonstrates commercial and technical feasibility while aligning with conventional chemical manufacturing systems. Independent evaluations confirm that carbon fibers made from bio-acrylonitrile perform at the same mechanical level as those produced with conventional fossil-based acrylonitrile. The key raw material, acrylonitrile, is derived from bio-naphtha, which in turn comes from renewable and recycled feedstocks such as rapeseed oil and waste cooking oil. By integrating these alternative resources, the company reduces greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain, reinforcing its role as a frontrunner in low-carbon technologies.
