HS Hyosung earns ISCC PLUS certification, advancing bio-based carbon fiber production, reducing emissions, and reinforcing global leadership in sustainable material solutions.

HS Hyosung Advanced Materials, a recognized global leader in carbon fiber innovation, has achieved a major sustainability milestone by securing ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification PLUS). This internationally acknowledged certification underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable production practices, supply chain transparency, and the development of next-generation eco-friendly materials. By earning this certification, HS Hyosung establishes a verified framework that incorporates both plant-based inputs and recycled resources into its carbon fiber production process.

The ISCC PLUS certification is considered one of the most rigorous standards for validating sustainability practices across industries. It ensures the traceability and accountability of bio-based and recycled feedstocks throughout the entire lifecycle—from raw material sourcing to production, distribution, and final application. The certification process is independently verified, which enhances its credibility and makes it a globally respected benchmark for companies striving to meet Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) expectations. For international manufacturers, suppliers, and institutions, ISCC PLUS serves as a reliable measure of sustainable innovation and responsible business practices.

HS Hyosung’s certified bio-AN (bio-acrylonitrile) carbon fiber demonstrates commercial and technical feasibility while aligning with conventional chemical manufacturing systems. Independent evaluations confirm that carbon fibers made from bio-acrylonitrile perform at the same mechanical level as those produced with conventional fossil-based acrylonitrile. The key raw material, acrylonitrile, is derived from bio-naphtha, which in turn comes from renewable and recycled feedstocks such as rapeseed oil and waste cooking oil. By integrating these alternative resources, the company reduces greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain, reinforcing its role as a frontrunner in low-carbon technologies.

Commenting on the achievement, Jin Dal Lim, CEO of HS Hyosung Advanced Materials, stated, “Securing ISCC PLUS certification is a significant step forward in our mission to build a truly sustainable production platform. We are dedicated to advancing bio-based, low-carbon materials while continuing to strengthen our leadership position in sustainable global solutions.”

This latest milestone builds on a series of recognitions highlighting the company’s leadership in sustainability. In addition to ISCC PLUS certification, HS Hyosung Advanced Materials was recently awarded the Platinum Medal by EcoVadis, ranking it among the top 1% of companies globally for supply chain ESG performance. The company has also sustained an “A” rating in the CDP Supply Engagement Assessment (SEA), further demonstrating its long-term commitment to responsible growth, ethical sourcing, and environmental stewardship.

By combining technological innovation with rigorous sustainability certifications, HS Hyosung Advanced Materials is not only expanding the future of carbon fiber but also reshaping global industry standards for eco-friendly production.
