India’s Monochlorobenzene Market Retreats in Jan 2026: Prices Down ~12%

Philip Ardagh 27-Feb-2026

Monochlorobenzene (MCB) market conditions in India weakened in January 2026 as ample domestic supply coincided with seasonally slow downstream consumption. Following the completion of cracker maintenance, improved benzene availability enabled producers to sustain high chlorination rates, while stable chlorine supply supported uninterrupted output. Manufacturing units in western India operated steadily, and improved inland logistics reduced distribution frictions, ensuring consistent availability across trading hubs. Buyers remained cautious after elevated year-end inventories, favouring short-term contracts and staggered lifting schedules, which limited spot liquidity. Downstream activity stayed subdued, with dye intermediates, rubber chemicals, and fluorination chains operating below typical levels, while agrochemical formulators delayed procurement ahead of the pre-kharif cycle. Pharmaceutical intermediates provided only a modest demand base. According to ChemAnalyst, the near-term outlook remains balanced, with market direction likely to depend on inventory drawdowns and the timing of downstream restocking across key industrial sectors.

Monochlorobenzene (MCB) prices in India moved sharply lower in January xxxx as a well-supplied domestic market met seasonally muted downstream demand for this month. Early January xxxx saw spot offers under pressure after cracker turnarounds finished and benzene availability widened, allowing producers to run full-rate chlorination. Throughout the month Maharashtra and Gujarat plants ran without major disruption, while improved tank-truck logistics around Mumbai eased last-mile premiums by late January. MCB buyers were still nervous due to year end inventories piling up to the sky, they have been willing to enter into short-term agreements with staggered receipt of goods rather than purchasing large volumes of goods and keeping overall transactional volume to a minimum across a number of important end-use chains.

Demand for Monochlorobenzene (MCB) Ex-Mumbai has declined due to decreased demand for MCB in India in the downstream segments. The three downstream markets that...
