New Delhi: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) produced more steel than before during the fiscal year 2022–2023. Over 19.4 million tonnes of hot metal and about 18.3 million tonnes of crude steel were produced, according to the organisation. In comparison to the previous year's output of crude steel, this is a remarkable increase of more than 4%, while hot metal production has increased by more than 3%, according to data gathered from SAIL reports.

According to the Ministry of Steel, the company has been steadily increasing its output over the years with an emphasis on producing more value-added and special steel. The robust demand, which is mostly attributable to the Indian government's infrastructure development projects, is what propels the company's expanded production output.

According to recent reports, plans are present to raise the present capacity of Crude Steel by more than 11–12 million tonnes by 2030–31. To increase capacity by more than 3 million tonnes within the next three to four years, this will include eliminating bottlenecks to existing operations. In addition, there are plans to expand the IISCO Burnpur Steel facility in West Bengal state, boosting capacity from the present 2.5 million tonnes per year to more than 4 million tonnes per year. Capital costs and the expansion process will both start in 2024–2025.

Under the government's production-linked incentive plan for speciality Steel in December 2022, Sail has received two approvals in the sub-categories of asymmetric and head-hardened rails, respectively.
