Indorama Ventures has taken another step toward strengthening sustainable plastic recycling in the Philippines by launching a Zero Waste to Landfill initiative at its PETValue Philippines recycling facility. The Thai chemical producer announced the collaboration with Republic Cement & Building Materials as part of its broader strategy to improve resource efficiency and support the country's circular economy.
The initiative will be carried out through IndoNova, Indorama Ventures' recycling business, which specializes in processing post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles into food-grade recycled PET (rPET) resin suitable for new beverage packaging applications. The partnership aims to maximize the recovery of materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.
Under the agreement, PET bottle components such as caps and labels, which cannot be converted into recycled PET resin during the recycling process, will be collected and processed by Republic Cement's resource recovery division, ecoloop. Instead of being disposed of as waste, these materials will be utilized as alternative fuel in cement manufacturing, reducing landfill dependence while replacing conventional fossil fuels used in kiln operations.
By integrating PETValue's bottle-to-bottle recycling technology with Republic Cement's expertise in waste recovery, the project seeks to improve overall material utilization and minimize waste generation. The collaboration also reflects the growing trend of cross-industry partnerships that enable companies from different sectors to contribute collectively toward sustainability objectives.
Indorama Ventures stated that the initiative aligns with its long-term commitment to circular economy principles by ensuring that a larger proportion of plastic waste remains within productive value chains. PETValue Philippines operates as a joint venture between Indorama Ventures and Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines (CCEAP). Located in Cavite, the facility is recognized as the Philippines' first bottle-to-bottle recycling plant capable of producing food-grade recycled PET resin. The plant plays an important role in supporting the country's packaging sustainability goals by transforming used PET beverage bottles into raw materials for new food and beverage containers.
