Indorama, REBHAN Launch Glass-Like PET for Premium Cosmetics

Indorama Ventures and REBHAN launch glass-like PET packaging, combining premium aesthetics, durability, lightweight design and recycled or renewable feedstocks.

Indorama Ventures and REBHAN FPS Kunststoff-Verpackungen have collaborated to introduce a new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging solution designed for premium beauty and personal care applications. The partnership combines Indorama Ventures’ expertise in specialty PET resin development with REBHAN’s capabilities in packaging design, engineering and manufacturing.

The companies have launched LUXYCLEAR EBM PET 5508, a PET grade developed specifically for high-end cosmetics packaging. The material is designed for extrusion blow moulding and enables manufacturers to produce thick-wall bottles with a highly transparent, glass-like appearance. The solution seeks to provide cosmetics brands with the visual appeal associated with glass while retaining PET’s practical advantages.

Unlike conventional glass packaging, PET offers lower weight, greater resistance to breakage and improved durability during transportation and everyday use. These characteristics can help brands develop premium-looking containers while potentially reducing packaging weight and handling challenges.

A key feature of LUXYCLEAR EBM PET 5508 is its availability in multiple feedstock options. Alongside a conventional virgin PET grade, the product can be manufactured with up to 100% chemically recycled PET content. The portfolio also includes an option using mass-balanced certified renewable feedstock. These alternatives are intended to help packaging manufacturers and beauty brands reduce their reliance on virgin fossil-based raw materials while maintaining clarity, product performance and quality.

Indorama Ventures’ specialty polymers business director Patrick Amrhein said the collaboration provides beauty brands with a commercially viable way to combine premium design, packaging performance and greater material flexibility. By pairing the PET grade with REBHAN’s design and manufacturing expertise, the companies aim to expand the use of distinctive, glass-like PET containers across the cosmetics market.

REBHAN sales and product management head Patrick Kohns noted that demand for glass-like PET bottles is increasing in beauty and personal care because the packaging combines luxurious transparency and visual appeal with lightweight, cost-effective and durable characteristics. The company believes these features can help brands differentiate products on retail shelves.

LUXYCLEAR EBM PET 5508 is now commercially available to beauty and personal care companies across Europe, the Americas and Asia, giving brands in major markets access to both conventional and more circular feedstock options.

The announcement follows Indorama Ventures’ recent collaboration with Suntory Holdings, Suntory PepsiCo Beverage (Thailand) and Iwatani to develop commercial-scale circular PET packaging in Thailand through its Indovida packaging business.

Impact on Chemical Commodity Prices

The launch is positive for specialty PET and sustainable packaging demand, particularly for high-clarity PET grades used in cosmetics. Greater adoption of chemically recycled and renewable-feedstock PET could increase demand for recycled PET feedstock and specialty resin technologies while gradually reducing dependence on conventional virgin PET. For commodities tracked by ChemAnalyst, PET prices could receive moderate upward support if premium packaging demand expands and recycled feedstock availability remains constrained. However, increased production capacity and broader availability of recycled PET could limit price gains over time. The impact on conventional PET prices is likely neutral to mildly positive, depending on regional supply-demand balances and feedstock costs.
