Indorama Ventures has recycled 150 billion PET bottles, cutting emissions and plastic waste while expanding global circular economy efforts through innovation.
Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited, a leading global player in sustainable chemicals, has announced a remarkable milestone—recycling over 150 billion post-consumer PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles since initiating its recycling operations in 2011. This achievement is a strong testament to the company’s long-standing dedication to advancing circular economy principles and its strategic investments in building robust recycling infrastructure across the globe.
Operating more than 20 recycling facilities in 11 countries, Indorama Ventures has developed a well-integrated global network powered by efficient operations and strategic partnerships. The company currently recycles 789 PET bottles every second, converting waste into high-quality recycled PET (rPET) resins and other sustainable materials. These recycled outputs serve industries worldwide, helping both Indorama Ventures and its clients meet ambitious sustainability targets.
The pace of progress has been significant. After hitting the 50 billion bottle recycling mark in March 2020, the company doubled its total to 100 billion by 2023—within just three and a half years. Now, reaching the 150 billion milestone further highlights both the rising global demand for recycled content and the company’s ability to scale rapidly through continuous infrastructure upgrades, innovation, and meaningful collaborations.
Yash Lohia, Executive President of Petchem and Chairman of the ESG Council at Indorama Ventures, emphasized the broader implications of this accomplishment. “Recycling 150 billion bottles is more than just a numeric feat—it symbolizes the synergy between people, purpose, and technology driving a more sustainable future. We extend our gratitude to consumers, partners, and clients for their role in this journey. This progress validates our commitment to long-term investment, innovation, and cooperative action to transition towards a circular economy.”
Beyond numbers, this achievement reflects significant environmental and social benefits. By recycling 150 billion PET bottles, the company has helped avoid approximately 3.8 million tons of CO2 emissions over the product lifecycle. Additionally, it has prevented about 2.8 million tons of plastic waste from reaching landfills or polluting natural ecosystems.
Indorama Ventures’ circularity approach is based on three foundational pillars: education, collection, and innovation. Its Waste Hero program, a global recycling awareness initiative, has already educated nearly 1 million people in schools and communities worldwide—well on the way toward its 2030 outreach goal. Simultaneously, the company has partnered with numerous collection networks to ensure a consistent supply of post-consumer PET, essential for maintaining the quality of recycled materials. On the technology front, Indorama Ventures collaborates with top-tier tech providers to implement advanced recycling solutions that enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
As demand for sustainable materials continues to climb, Indorama Ventures remains firmly committed to expanding recycling capabilities, advancing technological innovation, and fostering partnerships across the supply chain to accelerate global circularity.
