Kiefel unveils advanced thermoformer and fibre packaging innovations at K Show, focusing on sustainability, efficiency, and digital integration.
To mark its 70th anniversary, Kiefel is set to showcase an array of cutting-edge advancements in thermoforming, fibre-based packaging, and sustainable manufacturing at the upcoming K Show. The German machinery manufacturer is aligning its exhibit with current industry imperatives: greater efficiency, digital transformation, and environmental responsibility.
A central attraction at the Kiefel booth will be the debut of the Speedformer KTR 6.2 Speed, a next-generation tilting thermoforming machine. This advanced system is engineered to enhance both material efficiency and overall production line performance. Notably, it is capable of processing recycled PET (rPET) into high-quality products such as cups, and has already undergone rigorous testing in collaboration with Coexpan. These trials focused on maximizing the utility of rPET in industrial-scale thermoforming, demonstrating the machine’s ability to work seamlessly with sustainable inputs.
The Speedformer KTR 6.2 Speed comes equipped with several innovations, including the SpeedGuard film guide system and ProSpacing system, which collectively boost output and improve the machine’s adaptability to various product shapes. Visitors to the Siemens booth (Hall 3, Stand D16) will be able to interact with a digital twin of the Speedformer, providing a preview of how virtual support tools can facilitate equipment integration, remote diagnostics, and operational optimisation.
In line with its long-standing commitment to sustainability, Kiefel is also placing significant emphasis on fibre-based packaging technologies. At the show, the company will demonstrate its Natureformer KFT Lab, which uses a proprietary Double-Dip Process to manufacture fibre-based margarine containers with enhanced barrier properties. This makes the packaging suitable for oily or fatty contents while ensuring it remains fully recyclable, aligning with principles of the circular economy.
Another key highlight will be Kiefel’s dry-fibre technology, designed to manufacture packaging directly from paper rolls. Capable of producing items like beverage lids and trays at a high throughput of up to 70 million units annually, this solution reflects Kiefel’s aim to deliver sustainable packaging tailored to a range of industrial needs.
To support customer innovation, Kiefel will also spotlight its expanded Customer Innovation Centres, which offer support across the entire product development lifecycle—from design and prototyping to scaling and commercialisation.
In addition to showcasing packaging technologies, Kiefel will also display solutions in medical technology and large-format thermoforming systems. The company is scheduled to present a product made entirely from recycled plastics at the VDMA pavilion, accompanied by a product pitch on October 9 to discuss its broader implications for circular economy applications.
