L&T secured Rs.10,000–15,000 crore EPC orders for iron ore, steel, and zinc projects, strengthening India's expanding metals infrastructure.

Larsen & Toubro's (L&T) Metals & Minerals (M&M) business vertical recently secured multiple "Mega" category orders from prominent domestic metals and mining companies. The total value of these significant orders ranges between Rs. 10,000 crore and Rs. 15,000 crore. These wins underscore L&T's strong position in the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) sector across the metals and minerals value chain.

The new orders encompass diverse projects in critical segments of the metals and minerals industry. One significant contract involves an iron ore handling plant in Chhattisgarh. This order comes from India's largest iron ore producer, a public sector company. L&T will deliver Package #BE-01C for an 18 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) Iron Ore Handling Plant. This project forms part of the client's broader expansion program, targeting 100 MTPA iron ore production capacity by 2030.

The scope of work for the Chhattisgarh project is comprehensive. It includes the design, engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning of a downhill conveyor system. Additionally, L&T will be responsible for a screening plant, stockpile, yard equipment, and a Rapid Wagon Loading System (RWLS), along with associated auxiliary systems.

Another key order is for a steel plant expansion in West Bengal. This project, awarded by a public sector Navratna company, aims to increase the plant's capacity from 2.5 MTPA to 7.1 MTPA. L&T will execute various Design & Build and Balance of Plant packages for this expansion. Furthermore, L&T secured an EPC order for a zinc processing plant from a major private sector metals producer. This contract covers the design, engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning, and related site services, showcasing L&T's expertise in non-ferrous metallurgical projects.

These substantial order wins reinforce L&T's enduring leadership in the minerals and metals EPC sector. They demonstrate the deep trust customers place in the company's ability to deliver projects of exceptional scale and complexity. The projects highlight L&T's world-class capabilities in providing end-to-end EPC solutions.

Economically, these orders align with India's accelerated investments in augmenting its metals and minerals capacity. This capacity expansion is crucial for supporting the country's long-term economic growth. L&T's involvement significantly contributes to developing world-class industrial infrastructure. Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. S N Subrahmanyan, reiterated L&T's commitment to partnering with leading enterprises. This partnership is vital for strengthening India's self-reliance in sectors like steel production.

Product & Chemical Commodity Price Impact

L&T's large-scale EPC contracts will accelerate demand for construction materials, industrial equipment, and metallurgical inputs while expanding India's iron ore, steel, and zinc processing capacities. During project execution, demand is expected to rise for steel, iron ore, zinc, cement, industrial gases, lubricants, conveyor belts, and specialty engineering chemicals. Increased consumption of epoxy resins, protective coatings, structural steel, welding consumables, and industrial solvents may provide moderate price support due to higher procurement activity. Over the longer term, expanded steel and zinc production capacity could improve domestic metal availability, easing raw material supply constraints and stabilizing prices of downstream chemicals and metal-based products tracked by ChemAnalyst.
