Lummus Technology and InnoVent Renewables have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the global licensing and deployment of InnoVent’s continuous tire pyrolysis technology, marking a strategic step toward advancing the circular economy.

Lummus Technology, a leading global developer of process technologies and energy solutions, plans to serve as the exclusive licensor of InnoVent’s proprietary tire pyrolysis technology under the terms outlined in the MoU. The process converts end-of-life tires into valuable resources such as pyrolysis oil, gas, recycled carbon black and steel.

“This is another significant step in expanding and strengthening our portfolio for the circular economy,” said Leon de Bruyn, president and CEO of Lummus Technology. “By combining InnoVent's tire recycling technology with Lummus' global licensing and engineering expertise, we are addressing the pressing issue of waste tires while opening up new avenues for sustainable product development.”

The agreement envisions Lummus providing comprehensive technology packages that integrate InnoVent’s pyrolysis process with its own downstream technologies. This synergy aims to enhance the quality and value of fuels and petrochemicals derived from waste tires, creating a more sustainable and economically viable recycling pathway.

InnoVent’s proprietary technology offers a continuous, scalable, end-to-end solution for the recycling of used tires—from pre-processing to purification—into renewable fuels and high-value petrochemicals. The company currently operates a commercial-scale facility in Monterrey, Mexico, which processes up to one million passenger tires annually, with expansion capabilities for added capacity.

“Partnering with Lummus has the potential to accelerate the global deployment of our technology and help us tackle the environmental and public health challenges posed by the one billion end-of-life tires discarded each year,” said Vibhu Sharma, CEO of InnoVent Renewables. “Together, we can transform waste into valuable resources, reduce carbon emissions and support the transition to a more sustainable future.”

The partnership comes at a time when governments and industries worldwide are seeking more robust solutions to mitigate environmental damage from tire waste. By leveraging Lummus’ extensive global reach and engineering capabilities, the companies aim to fast-track the adoption of InnoVent’s innovative pyrolysis platform across key markets.

Final licensing agreements are expected to be negotiated following the MoU, with plans to commercialize and scale the technology in regions most affected by tire waste challenges.

This collaboration underscores both companies’ commitment to innovation, environmental stewardship and the advancement of sustainable industrial practices on a global scale.

Lummus Technology is a global leader in delivering innovative technology solutions that enable modern life while advancing a more sustainable, low-carbon future. The company licenses process technologies across a broad range of sectors, including clean fuels, renewables, petrochemicals, polymers, and gas processing. In addition, Lummus offers lifecycle services, proprietary catalysts and equipment, and digital solutions to customers around the world.
