Lummus invests in InnoVent Renewables to scale advanced tire recycling technology, boosting circular economy solutions and global deployment of sustainable materials.
Lummus Technology, a globally recognized provider of advanced process technologies and value-driven energy solutions, has announced a strategic equity investment in InnoVent Renewables. The investment is aimed at accelerating the worldwide deployment of InnoVent’s proprietary tire recycling technology, which is designed to address one of the most pressing environmental challenges associated with end-of-life tires.
The accumulation of waste tires is a growing global issue, with industry estimates indicating that more than one billion tires are discarded into landfills or unmanaged dumps every year. These tires are difficult to decompose, pose fire and health risks, and represent a significant loss of potentially valuable material. In this context, Lummus’ decision to invest in InnoVent underscores its broader commitment to advancing sustainable and circular economy solutions that combine environmental responsibility with commercial viability.
Commenting on the investment, Leon de Bruyn, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lummus Technology, emphasized that the partnership aligns closely with the company’s long-term strategic vision. He noted that supporting InnoVent reinforces Lummus’ dedication to technologies that can deliver measurable environmental benefits while meeting industrial-scale requirements. According to him, the collaboration between the two companies has already demonstrated strong technical performance and commercial alignment, and the new investment is expected to significantly accelerate global adoption of a proven tire recycling solution.
InnoVent’s technology offers a comprehensive, end-to-end approach to tire recycling. It converts end-of-life tires into a range of high-value products, including tire pyrolysis oil, recovered carbon black, pyrolysis gas, and steel. The process covers the entire value chain, from pre-processing of waste tires through advanced purification stages, enabling the recovery of materials that can be reused in fuels, chemicals, and manufacturing applications. This integrated and scalable model positions InnoVent as a key enabler of circularity in the tire and materials industries.
Vibhu Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of InnoVent Renewables, welcomed the expanded partnership and highlighted the strategic importance of Lummus’ involvement. He stated that Lummus’ extensive global footprint, deep technology expertise, and established licensing capabilities will allow InnoVent to scale its solution more rapidly and reach markets where sustainable, high-value alternatives to conventional tire disposal are urgently needed. The investment, he added, represents a significant step toward making advanced tire recycling commercially accessible across multiple regions.
The relationship between the two companies began in 2025, when Lummus and InnoVent formalized a partnership under which Lummus became the exclusive global licensor of InnoVent’s tire pyrolysis technology. Since then, Lummus has leveraged its worldwide licensing network, engineering know-how, and process technology portfolio to support the international scale-up of the solution. The new investment builds on this foundation by strengthening the commercial and operational aspects of the collaboration.
Currently, InnoVent operates a commercial-scale facility in Monterrey, Mexico, with the capacity to process up to one million passenger tires per year. The capital infusion from Lummus is expected to support capacity expansion at this site while further enhancing the technology’s economic performance and market readiness. As global demand grows for sustainable waste management and resource recovery solutions, the partnership positions both companies to play a leading role in transforming how end-of-life tires are managed worldwide.
