GXLYB received FDA approval for recycled PP and HDPE, expanding CirculenRecover applications across personal care, packaging, and consumer industries.

Genox LyondellBasell New Material Co., Ltd. (GXLYB), a joint venture formed between global chemical giant LyondellBasell (LYB) and Genox Recycling, has achieved a key regulatory milestone by receiving No Objection Letters (NOLs) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its recycling processes involving recycled polypropylene (rPP) and recycled high-density polyethylene (rHDPE). The FDA issued these letters on April 28 and May 6, respectively, confirming that the mechanical recycling methods used by GXLYB meet the stringent health and safety standards required by the agency.

The issuance of these NOLs highlights the quality and safety of GXLYB's recycling operations. The company employs a meticulous quality control framework that encompasses every stage of production—from the sourcing of raw plastic waste materials to the final testing of finished products. The approved recycling processes are used to produce CirculenRecover polymers, a product line derived from plastic waste via mechanical recycling techniques.

CirculenRecover polymers are designed to cater to a wide range of applications, including injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding. With the FDA’s approval in place, these recycled polymers can now be utilized in more sensitive applications such as manufacturing bottles and caps for personal care and cosmetic products. Furthermore, they can be deployed in consumer goods, packaging, industrial components, and household products—offering a sustainable alternative without compromising on quality or performance.

Fu Limin, Vice President of Polyolefins China and Joint Venture Management at LYB, and Chairman of the Board at GXLYB, emphasized the significance of the FDA’s recognition. “Receiving these two NOLs from the FDA is a strong endorsement of both our recycling technologies and the quality of our products. This is a vital step in expanding our circular polymer portfolio in China and helping local customers and brand owners meet their sustainability objectives,” he stated.

Matthijs M. Beijk, Vice President of Feedstock and Mechanical Recycling for the EMEAI region at LyondellBasell, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the broader global impact. “This accomplishment is a clear reflection of our ongoing commitment to sustainability. By advancing the CirculenRecover line, we enhance the value proposition of recycled plastics and open up new opportunities for sustainable innovation in global markets,” he said.

The certification process was facilitated by ASSURIS Expert Services, part of Intertek—a globally recognized leader in quality assurance and safety standards. Their involvement ensured a smooth regulatory journey and helped confirm the credibility and integrity of GXLYB’s recycling methodologies.

This achievement further solidifies LyondellBasell and Genox’s joint commitment to circular economy solutions, offering industry-leading materials that contribute meaningfully to global recycling and sustainability efforts.
